I wanted to know if anyone ha actualy used the B.A in criminal justice to get a good job in nys like a probation officer or other? Thanks...
Jaimie?
How can you tell if Ashworth is Legit by the type of job you get?
Even students going to top IVY League schools are having hard time finding employment in this economy.
I am a Ashworth student and doing AS Degree in Criminal Justice,it is my intention to continue my studies by doing online BSL/JD from one of California Correspondence Schools The School told me to call the California Bar Association @ 415-538-2000 to see if Ashworth College AS Degree in CJ is acceptable,I was very excited that CBA accepts Ashworth.
I will graduate this July from Ashworth and very proud.
meaning some places dont accept it and many people have said this school isnt accepted anywhere when yo graduate classes...
Ashworth College is a legitimate school.. They are Nationally accredited by The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). In addition the High School is also Regionally accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).
Depending what area of the legal field that you wish to pursue, there are no guarantees of a job whatever school you attend. Firstly decide where you want to work, finds out what qualifications they require, and inquire if Ashworth qualifications are acceptable. Also remember that some careers require physical and other requirements also in addition to educational.
regards
Mal Clark
Its listed as accredited i triple checked!
Why does the school not have a code that you can use on the Gov education site? I have checked other online colleges. I did a secrch on WWW.fafsa.ed.gov, and I can not find Ashworth, and when I spoke to a few other Colleges, they would not accept any credits that I have from Ashworth. Does Ashworth have a School code?
Magicboo
You probably cant find them on fafsa because you can not get finacial aid for ashworth there prices are very reasonable. Check the department of education website they are on there and they are on bbb with a A rating.
When you call another college or university, you need to ask them if they accept credits from schools that are accredited by the Distance Education Training Council. Many will accept the credits. I live in NH, and I was able to find several with just a few quick calls and emails.
Okay thanks everybody! Help was needed. I love this school, but have been spooked by some chatter that they were not on the up and up. Happy Learning everybody!

I finished my AA in Criminal Justice last year, and working on paying off my account so I can graduate and get my degree......
They (Ashworth) are great in helping me to accomplish my goals, and even let me take a couple years off for Family Needs, before finishing my Education........
Next Stop-
BA in CJ.................GO ASHWORTH!!
Just an FYI. The school codes required for FAFSA is to qualify and track Federal Student Loans...it's an arconym for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Since Ashworth does not utlize the Federal Student aid program, the number for their services is obviously not required.
Start your research here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distance_Education_and_Training_Council
http://www.detc.org/about.html
These sites tell you about the organization which accredits Ashworth.
Next, go to the DETC site and look them up...or follow this link:
http://www.detc.org/search_schools.php?searchSet=true&name=ashworth&category=A
There, you can verify that Ashworth is accredited by them.
Generally speaking, you should have no problems with Federal, State or Local agencies or their privately contracted affiliates since the DETC is wholly backed by the United States Department of Education. And NO COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY can guarantee the value or benefit you will get from their degree. What you do with it is up to you.
Hope this helps.
BTW...Here is one additional link...probably THE link. It goes to the United States Department of Education and confirms that the DETC is Federally recognized to accredit colleges for Associates Degrees (first professional degree level) up to Professional Doctorate degrees.

Great info. Thx!
Even though I dont have the Offical Document in hand, I showed my employer that I completed my AA in CJ, and it was helpful in being considered for an advancement @ Juvenile Probation where I work.
this is just what i was looking for thank you
Jamie
Congrats
Ashworth College is legit; i received a pay increase as well as a promotion as a result of me having my associates degree. I don't know what you mean proof, or need as proof, but the degrees are legit.

this is just what i was looking for thank you

I work for the state of Missouri and they recognize Ashworth accredidation. Check the policies for your prospective employer to see what accredidation they require. Most accept anything recognized by the Dept. of Education.
In California, a Degree from a regionally accepted college is required to test for Probation Officer. However, for correctional officers, Ashworth is sufficient for extra pay and career points. I am aware of some California Correctional Officers who were promoted upon the basis of a DETC degree. A good friend of mine received career points in the ARMY and was allowed to reinlist because he had a B.A. from Ashworth. This school IS NOT a diploma mill based on its ethical process of test proctor requirements. Because so many military people are taking courses from Ashworth, is the reason I decided to take on graduate CJ work. Hope I answered your question.
I'm a military spouse using my goverment MyCAA funds and Ashworth is listed as one of their schools. That means its legit.
Most local if not all law enforcement accept DETC degrees, if they didnt i wouldnt be working in the field.
DETC school like ashworth are legit schools, not everyone is a sit down in class college student. if it wasnt for schools like ashworth who knows where i would have been. i am not a ivy leaguer, i know this , i dont want to be one.
ashworth does take federal aid you have to be from georgia to do so though . thats what i was told be the dean of the school im from tennessee so they wont take federal outta state aid. i have to say my expirience here at ashworth college has been a great one. hope you enjoy it as much as i have
Hi.. I need a friend of Crimical Justice in Associated cause i am mostly lost on all of my Lesson and i am now failing LOL

You can verify this with the Dept of Education's website at www.ed.gov, Ashworth IS fully accredited and I am preparing to go from a Bachelor's of Criminal Justice into Graduate School at Northwestern College. NWC verified that they DO accept Ashworth's Undergraduate Degrees for a student wishing to attend a Graduate (Masters Level).
I checked the government website, I checked the military website, The BBB, And good ol surfing the net for dates when school was opened. ALL checked out.
the answer, is your applying for an ivy league school than no, they will not accept ashworth credits. however, if your like me and want to apply for a civil service position or other job not requiring an ivy league education than this school is for you. if you want to be a lawyer or a doctor go elswhere.
That's not accurate. Stetson Law told me they would except any BA or BS by any school that was accredited by the Department of Education which Ashworth is.
Go DeLand

I'm originally from New Smyrna Beach...So great to hear something local mentioned! I live in Alabama now...
SWEET HOME ALABAMA!
Sorry song moment...
But the school is legit.
I am using this degree to apply to Stetson Law school in Florida. They said that any BA or BS degree recognized by the Department of Education is executable
I have spoken to the Dept of Ed at their toll free number and they verify that Ashworth College is 100% legit, I even checked with Northwestern College in Minn and University of Phoenix and Kaplan Univesity. All three agree Ashworth degrees WILL transfer to their Graduate schools.
To bad they are so expensive
Silverrose:
Compared to tradional brick and morter schools, its almost like stealing from them thier prices are so low!
You looking at the same prices I am for University of Phoenix? Cause its just as much if not more then most colleges where I live?
OMG UOP is terrible. expensive!!!!!!!!! I just transfered from there.
Lol thats what i said
If anyone is interested in attending Law School...California State Bar allows you to take the bar by getting a law degree from a non aba school via distance education. You are allowed to attend these law schools with either a two year or four year degree accredited by DETC. I have studied this issue very deeply and I have already chose the law school I will be attending.
I am interested in the law degree,. Any information will be appreciated.
Also I think I read somewhere that Auburn University in Auburn Alabama accepts at least some course credits from Ashworth.
I received my Associates Degree Through Ashworth and am now working on my BA and eventually my Masters it has been a long journey so far but worth it; If for no other reason, SELF SATISFACTION AND ACCOMPLISHMENT
Thanks,
Wanda
I am an employee of Auburn University and they except all my ashworth courses for employment purposes. (kinda funny that I don't just go to auburn but they don't have the self paced programs I need)
I am also working on my BA & hopefully they will have a Masters in what I want to major in by the time I get there. Long road but we all will get there!
Northwestern California University School Of Law is a great DL School. To be accepted you have to meet California State Bar requirement.I Did.
Yeah, 28,000 for a Masters in CJ! That's crazy for an online school!
If you go to Web Site "College Crunch Top 25 Online Colleges Ranked with Accredited Programs", you will find Ashworth Ranked at number 21 out of 53 in ranked online colleges. That's not to bad. University of Pheonix was ranked number 1 but my goodness, the tuition cost!!!!
=P with as much as university of phoenix advertises they probably bought number one
From my view, it all depends what you want at the end of the process. If you want to buy a car, you normally buy a vehicle that will perform the purposes that you have in mind. Decide firstly on where you want to be, and then after investigation, decide if Ashworth will get you there. For me, it provides adequately what I need, and has the necessary accreditation.

Ashworth is a accrediated school and is listed with the department of education in the US. If you have you have any questions about any school you would like to study with. The easiest way is to contact the department of education in Washington DC
Ashworth is legit with a national accreditation with DETC for distance learning. I understand your concern as my husband is completing his minor in criminal justice with Central Texas College. In California, you cannot get hired on with a degree from only a nationally accredited college. They must hold "regional" accreditation.
It is best to check with the state and location in which you intend on applying to verify that they will or will not accept a degree from a nationally accredited college ![]()
I understand that there are states back east that do accept national accreditation.
Good luck to you!
I currently work for an agency that is affliated with the Department of Education. If you look on ed.gov, Ashworth College is accredited by the Department of Education. Most accredited schools do funding such as title IV loans, however Ashworth does not simply to make it more affordable to their students. Anybody confused on the accreditation please check on the Department of Education's website. If anyone has questions feel free to ask.
I am very glad you posed the question and I feel more confident about being enrolled here.
