Microsoft word vs Open Office

I know the school requires Mocrosoft Word for all files that are uploaded to them.  I do not have Microsoft Word.  I have Open Office.   Will that work or do I need to go out and buy Microsoft Word?

I am currently using open office. It gets all my assignments done. And I'm pretty satisfied with it. It's from Microsoft too. I think. "Munchie."

Most teachers prefer Microsoft Word. Also if you go to college in the future they will  more than likely require microsoft word was an investment into the future

OpenOffice or LibreOffice will get your work done without issue. It supports the majority of the features and save in the Microsoft Office format.

You really can't tell a difference in the final product in Word.

To get your school work turned in; Openoffice will get the job done, but I have tried to tweek an imported Microsoft Excel file in Openofffice and have noticed some format and formula issues between the two. If you are just using the the Openoffice version of word, you will be ok to turn in assignments, given the format you save it to is a .doc or docx. If you are learning spreadsheets in excel you will have multiple problems with formulas and formats not only working different, but looking different. If you are opening a newer version MS Office document with an older version, it will not offer all the options that you may have used in the newer version to create that document, bare that in mind if you save the document under a older version. Here is a link for some common formats for Microsoft:

Re: Microsoft word vs Open Office

I am taking the Business classes and have had issues with BU350.1.1 Organizational Behavior and BU320.2.1 Marketing Principles when completing assignments in word in the assignment text box.  Even though I followed the instructions in the Orientation video, pasting word into the text box creates a formatting nightmare.

The text from the Word document did not remain intact and garbled codes were inserted.  The Text Box word processor is extremely difficult to use to format margins, font, font size, page numbering, and etc.

Attachments which are attached to the Text Box assignment screen in word, the instructor claims the attachment is not visible, although I can log into my account from multiple computers that do not have a copy of the attachment and view the attachment.  At one point when I requested intervention it was stated that attachments were not allowed to the text box.  However, the Orientation even describes the use of attachments to the Text Box assignment screen.

The incompatibility is a serious problem for students and really needs some work.  Has anyone else experienced these problem?
