looking for others takin auto mechanics

im workin on lesson 9 Ignition system maintenance but could always use some good book discussion about prior lessons or future lessons will be taking any good discussion might help with text understanding and can be a review as well

               {i dont know if anyones noticed this but some of the jobs that ask to number the labled parts are often missing a number for certain parts or missing the definiton to match all the numbered terms}

(so what lessons are you working on) and possibly any good reveiw questions posted could help memorize the correct answers or terms   could be like a study discussion from text from the book

1) In a breakerless system electronic circuitry take the place of what 2 parts of the system ?

2) the primary winding consist of how many turns of wiring?

3) the secondary winding consist of how many turns of wiring and what type of wiring is used?

(search ur books for the answers and for any good questions to review n post)

                                                                                                                                                       good luck everyone

    drazuuma -

Hi there! My name is Nicole, and I am part of the Curriculum Team here at Ashworth.

You wrote, "i dont know if anyones noticed this but some of the jobs that ask to number the labled parts are often missing a number for certain parts or missing the definiton to match all the numbered terms"

I wanted to get some clarification from you so that I can look into this issue. Could you provide me with some specific examples of what you are talking about (i.e. Lesson 4, Practice Your Skills #3, etc). If information is missing that is needed in order to grasp the knowledge presented and succcessfully complete the activities and exams, we want to know so that we can update the materials ASAP.

    Thanks!

by relating to transformers it to my understanding that it could well depend on rather or not you want a higher or lower voltage .if primary is higher(having more turns than secondary) you get a lower output voltage and then vice versa if in reverse (secondary having more turns)

It's been 30 years since I took an auto course. I'm enrolled as an HVAC student.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

    1) Points and condenser.

    2) Few turns of heavy wire. (Reference to the coil)

    3) Many turns of fine wire. (Also in reference to the coil)

[Be aware that these concepts are different in modern day distributerless systems]

I'm disapointed that I can't find HVAC techs who wish to group up. This field is complex. Don't walk away from it, don't exect to absorb it all in a short time. Practice hands on in addition to book study if you can. What ever your field of choice, you will do well.

My names Will and ive started the Automotive guide about alittle over a month ago, and already on chapter 11, it mostly helps that i know a bit about cars but hurts that i do not have any hands on when some pictures arent quite clear on what is supposed to be discussed, most stuff i know now days I have basically learned myself by getting out and just doing it, even if i didnt know what i was doing, so a bit of advice to people that dont know anything about cars yet, dont  be scared to find someone in need of alittle help because you dont know whats going on, you never know what will just click inside and somethings you might just learn for yourself, just trust what you feel and hope for the best, the only problem i have had seriously in my book was the first book on 1 job had a picture straight through what i was supposed to be doing.. lol, i didnt find it to bad because well lets face it, i dont think anyone would like me taking thier car apart, and it was alittle amusing to see, but other than that, the net helps alot on pictures if you cant make them out like me.. now that i am currently without net, having to wait till i finish an exam to go somewhere and put it in, my imagination does not agree with the text i read... i see water pump and my imagination tells me a water dam, or a floatation device, kinda stinks having a huge imagination... lol, well the best of luck to everyone, just keep it cool and make sure to really pay attetion to what you read, because the stuff that dont sound like it will help, is probably on the exam

Well if you know alot or just even alittle bout cars, the stuff you know will only take you about a Day or so to read,do review questions and ASE along with the Exam, On stuff you dont know, just depends on how fast you can learn and study/read... as in i went pretty quick through all my lessons but i been on transmissions (lesson 13) for about 5 days now (kinda dreading it) lol, its just really depends on the person i guess... hope this helps, if not just send me a message and ill try and help

I've been timkering here and there with my Dakota 5.2.  I changed the oil, of course I do that all the time on our Liberty anyway.  Next thing I want to do is change the rearend oil, I found a service manual and it said at 120,000 miles that it was supposed to be changed.  Its got limited-slip so you have to put an additive in along with the 80W90 Gear oil.  Other than that it runs real good so it doesn't need a tuneup yet.  Thinking sbout enhancing the performance a bit, cam/computer but thats kinds of expensive.

I did start another discussion before finding this one - how is everyone finding this program?  Can you really learn this well from a distance and how many of you are using a car to work on at the same time?

I'm trying to get a sense of the quality of the program, instructors and school before diving in, thank you.

Answer to number one is the points and condensor.  Solid state uses a sensor and trigger wheel.

    Hello all,

I just set up an account and I am considering joining Ashworth to take the auto mechanics. I was wondering if anyone in the program can give me some feedback? Is it a good program? Have you had any issues or problems? Anything you can share with me would be helpful thanks
