im workin on lesson 9 Ignition system maintenance but could always use some good book discussion about prior lessons or future lessons will be taking any good discussion might help with text understanding and can be a review as well
{i dont know if anyones noticed this but some of the jobs that ask to number the labled parts are often missing a number for certain parts or missing the definiton to match all the numbered terms}
(so what lessons are you working on) and possibly any good reveiw questions posted could help memorize the correct answers or terms
could be like a study discussion from text from the book
1) In a breakerless system electronic circuitry take the place of what 2 parts of the system ?
2) the primary winding consist of how many turns of wiring?
3) the secondary winding consist of how many turns of wiring and what type of wiring is used?
(search ur books for the answers and for any good questions to review n post)
good luck everyone ![]()

Hi there! My name is Nicole, and I am part of the Curriculum Team here at Ashworth.
You wrote, "i dont know if anyones noticed this but some of the jobs that ask to number the labled parts are often missing a number for certain parts or missing the definiton to match all the numbered terms"
I wanted to get some clarification from you so that I can look into this issue. Could you provide me with some specific examples of what you are talking about (i.e. Lesson 4, Practice Your Skills #3, etc). If information is missing that is needed in order to grasp the knowledge presented and succcessfully complete the activities and exams, we want to know so that we can update the materials ASAP.
Thanks! ![]()

hi my names robert from southern vermont im taking auto mecanics get back tome ty

hey Nicole
I was thinking of changing courses, and auto mechanics always been a big interest. my only concerns iss women in the feild? and if my chances of employment are greater or less?? any suggestions.
Hi elizabeth i think in todays world being a women you can be anything"Also there is very few ladies in the auto mecanic field i believe your changes as being enployed in the auto mecanic field are very great they can't not put you down or judge because your a women actly i'am very inpressed haveing a women in this field i say go for it . You just as smart as a man" Hell if they have women working for the state"Im sure they can work doing auto" mecanics dont let that stop your life dream. Also remember it be just like a man working in a hospital" as a nurse lol right . say go for it girl you have nothing to loss good luck hun god bless. from Rob P.
There's a MIdas a few towns over from me thats run mostly by women. Its amazing how many women are in the Automotive field.
I was wondering how quickly I can do my lessons I am in the auto mechanics program and I have experience so this is pretty easy for me if you could message me and let me know I would appreciate it.
I'm almost done with auto mechanics the classes are easy. you'll do fine
Hi Nicole, I'm sorry but I'm not taking "auto mechanics" and I dident write anything. I'm in the locksmith program.
by relating to transformers it to my understanding that it could well depend on rather or not you want a higher or lower voltage .if primary is higher(having more turns than secondary) you get a lower output voltage and then vice versa if in reverse (secondary having more turns)
It's been 30 years since I took an auto course. I'm enrolled as an HVAC student.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
1) Points and condenser.
2) Few turns of heavy wire. (Reference to the coil)
3) Many turns of fine wire. (Also in reference to the coil)
[Be aware that these concepts are different in modern day distributerless systems]
I'm disapointed that I can't find HVAC techs who wish to group up. This field is complex. Don't walk away from it, don't exect to absorb it all in a short time. Practice hands on in addition to book study if you can. What ever your field of choice, you will do well.
those where really good awnsers and this is very true concepts are different from vehichle to vehicle maker to maker so it is always a good idea to check the manuals for the vehicle being worked on to ensure ur knowledge of its systems are correct and up to date on how to correct the problems occuring
hi my names robert from southern vermont im taking auto mecanics get back to me ty
Hi My name is Kelly I live in Sharon,VT and I am taking auto mechanics. Get back in touch with me. My email address is mommabear19961998@gmail.com
Hi kelly my names robert from poultney vermont im taking auto mecanics . get back to me my yahoo adress is fordman84_70@yahoo.com
Hi Robert,
Please feel free to email me at mommabear19961998@gmail.com.. I am juggleing two special needs children and my mechanics courses. Most of my time is spent on the computer trying to get this out by email for my kids and myself, but its easier for me to reply to you.
Just enrolled, could someone tell me what kind of materials to expect to recieve in this course.
u will get a text books work books a few tools and a course guide there is 2 text books 4 work books and a starter tool with each of the 4 shipments first one is saftey glasses second is a tire checker then 3rd a phillips and flat head screw driver then last combination wrenches
My names Will and ive started the Automotive guide about alittle over a month ago, and already on chapter 11, it mostly helps that i know a bit about cars but hurts that i do not have any hands on when some pictures arent quite clear on what is supposed to be discussed, most stuff i know now days I have basically learned myself by getting out and just doing it, even if i didnt know what i was doing, so a bit of advice to people that dont know anything about cars yet, dont be scared to find someone in need of alittle help because you dont know whats going on, you never know what will just click inside and somethings you might just learn for yourself, just trust what you feel and hope for the best, the only problem i have had seriously in my book was the first book on 1 job had a picture straight through what i was supposed to be doing.. lol, i didnt find it to bad because well lets face it, i dont think anyone would like me taking thier car apart, and it was alittle amusing to see, but other than that, the net helps alot on pictures if you cant make them out like me.. now that i am currently without net, having to wait till i finish an exam to go somewhere and put it in, my imagination does not agree with the text i read... i see water pump and my imagination tells me a water dam, or a floatation device, kinda stinks having a huge imagination... lol, well the best of luck to everyone, just keep it cool and make sure to really pay attetion to what you read, because the stuff that dont sound like it will help, is probably on the exam ![]()
yeah i came across that same thing in chapter 7 but yeah i been having the same difficulties i prefer hands on learning get bored easily with reading thats why i bought my truck i just got it today it needs alot of work so itll be a good study project for hands on learning and if i screw it up got no one to be pissed at but myself lol
yeah i hear ya, i had a cavy that i got and my step dad crashed it and i replaced the radiator and was working on fixing some other stuff when it was moved to another state lol, now i started school i have no car XD,
So how quickly can I go through my lessons.
Well if you know alot or just even alittle bout cars, the stuff you know will only take you about a Day or so to read,do review questions and ASE along with the Exam, On stuff you dont know, just depends on how fast you can learn and study/read... as in i went pretty quick through all my lessons but i been on transmissions (lesson 13) for about 5 days now (kinda dreading it) lol, its just really depends on the person i guess... hope this helps, if not just send me a message and ill try and help
I also just enrolled and still waiting for my books to arrive.
I live in Suriname, that's in South-America just above Brazil.
So i guess i have to wait a bit longer heh?
I couldnt tell you really, sorry, It was about 5 days or so to recieve my first set of books and about 4 days or so to recieve my new assignments and books along with the tools. but i live in AR um, you might have to call them or check your account on the website for tracking information to see exactly where it is and keep an eye on it that way..
hey oasispoet..did you get ne of the tornadoes?
well did the first bit of maintenance on my truck changed the oil and oil filter and used some fast weld on the hole in the front fuel tank so now just gotta put a second coating of fast weld on cause its still a tiny leak but its almost fully sealed and changing the oil and oil filter only took bout an hour most of that was draining the oil, had to make 3 trips to car quest lol one for oil and a drain pan then second for oil filter and fast weld then found out when i got the oil filter got the wrong oil cause the lady accidently put my truck in the computer as a 1998 when its actually an 1988 so had to come back and exchange the oil i bought for the right oil lol but thats no biggie stuff happens but once i got all that squared away only took an hour to drain and change the oil and filter gonna take the old oil and filter in for recyclying tomorrow =) but i enjoyed doin the work now im hooked i cant leave my truck alone lol
I've been timkering here and there with my Dakota 5.2. I changed the oil, of course I do that all the time on our Liberty anyway. Next thing I want to do is change the rearend oil, I found a service manual and it said at 120,000 miles that it was supposed to be changed. Its got limited-slip so you have to put an additive in along with the 80W90 Gear oil. Other than that it runs real good so it doesn't need a tuneup yet. Thinking sbout enhancing the performance a bit, cam/computer but thats kinds of expensive.
Hello every one, i am also attending auto mechanice, i am on leasson 17, i wish everyone the bestest luck......![]()
I did start another discussion before finding this one - how is everyone finding this program? Can you really learn this well from a distance and how many of you are using a car to work on at the same time?
I'm trying to get a sense of the quality of the program, instructors and school before diving in, thank you.
I just joined recently my books should be here tomorrow hopefully I want to get cracking.
Answer to number one is the points and condensor. Solid state uses a sensor and trigger wheel.
hey to help you with your studies go to youtube, they have a ton of examples on auto mechanics.
hey I went to youtube to study are there any specific videos i should watch.
Hello all,
I just set up an account and I am considering joining Ashworth to take the auto mechanics. I was wondering if anyone in the program can give me some feedback? Is it a good program? Have you had any issues or problems? Anything you can share with me would be helpful thanks
