has anybody with a ashworth high school diploma been accepted to any colleges? and if so which ones are you going to ?
I don't know anyone who's applied to yet alone been accepted to any colleges yet.
But Anthony (anthony 07) is close to graduating and plans to go to a traditional college.
However, I myself started to research colleges last year, and so far, all of the ones I'm looking at definitely accept diploma's by schools with the same accreditation as Ashworth/James Madison High School.
So if you were worrying about if your diploma is/will be valid, then don't worry, because it is.
As for being accepted to colleges, we'll all need to basically go through the same processes as everyone else when applying, and we're all in the same boat as other applicants.
It's how the individual shows that a certain school is right for them, and proves why they should be accepted that gets them accepted.
*Sorry if this is sort of straying from the questions you originally asked, but I just thought I'd cover some possible ground that may be on the sidelines of your general questions.
thank you for answer buddy, Can you list the colleges that you was looking into please
Weber State University
and Grand Valley University
I would like to hear real examples. has anyone been accepted to a college from here and what college.
I'm applying to colleges now, 8 in total. I was already accepted into one, right here in NY, Marymount Manhattan College.
I completely agree with you Cavi =p Since the diploma is accreited we don't have to worry about that, we particularly need to worry about the admission process and how that works. Ashworth should have chats that explain and give tips about the process!!
Hi Phillip. Yes, we of course have high school graduates accepted to colleges throughout the country. The high school diploma is nationally/regionally accredited and is accepted everywhere just as a high school diploma from a traditional school is. There is absolutely no difference between the high school diploma you'll receive with us and the high school diploma one may traditionally obtain at a brick and mortar school. What colleges are you potentially interested in attending?
one i was looking at was santa barbara community college in California
here's a list of colleges that have accepted the diploma
http://www.ashworthcollege.edu/community/alumni/graduate-outcomes/schools/
thanks for the list buddy i really appreciate it
I need some advice everyone since my question falls under this category. When I get done and graduate from here I want to go to a college that has a sports management program and minor in criminal justice or paralegal because I want to go into law possibly go to law school later down the line. Do you guys have any suggestions?
You have to research colleges in your state (if you wanna stay in your state) or other states that have these majors/minors. You can apply to the college since you have a diploma but contact the admissions department and let them know your situation.
Thanks Anthony and Cavi
I need to do more research on it.. But seeing as that I still have awhile to go in the college prep program Im not sure when to start looking into colleges and applying...
I think you should start looking and gathering information little by little now.
That way you can get as much information as possible, learn the admissions process, save for application fees, know all the documents you'll need for which specific colleges, and etc.
I imagine it'd be chaos to only start doing things once you get your diploma.
Most of my friends who are now freshmen in college procrastinated with their college admissions and college research and ended up applying late, had limited choices to plan out their class schedule, and basically had to revolve their plans around the college they got accepted to.
I think it's much better to have the college revolve around your plans...that way, you get to study what you want without any limitations.
*If one will pay any amount of tuition, whether it be a single-digit thousand for in-state or a double-digit thousand for out-of-state, the college should fit them just right.
Like Anthony said, you need to first research colleges.
here are some good sites to get you started (I check them out regularly):
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/search
and there's this site [that was first discussed in my SATs & ACT discussion post] that most people use for SATs...but it can help you search for colleges as well:
Cavi
Thanks for the heads up! Ive never gone through college applications before because ive always gone to a community college and it wasnt until I applied for my bachelors program before I started Ashworth that I was in for culture shock... Im start doing research today and learn more about accreditation. Im scared im go to a college thats not accredited...
Double-checking for accreditation is always a +PLUS.
Because that's 1 worry off your list before you even consider applying.
Not to mention, I think it's immensely fun searching for different colleges lol!
Usually when I get distracted from my studying, I'm researching things...college, cars, job salaries, etc.
While I havent yet graduated, I contacted the college I want to go to when I graduate, and they take Ashworth diploma, since they are accredited. Its University of Phoniex online.
I might just go there and get my criminal justice degree but im not sure yet... I need to research and weigh out all of my options..
Why not just go to Ashworth college. It is Accredited, affordable, and your used to the setup. It would be an advantage to go to Ashworth.
I was reading that I think he is the cheif or assitant in the Texas Rangers is a Ashworth criminal justice grad.
What really sealed the deal for me was the accredation and affordability of Ashworth. You could go to other online colleges, pay so much more, and get the same accredited credentials..... You gotta ask your self WHY?
I just might consider staying here the only problem for me is if i stay at Ashworth they dont have financial aid for me to pay it off. I can barely pay for the high school diploma program... Ive been searching for a job for a while and will continue to search
Financial aid is another huge reason to stay.... Intrest free financing. with %discounts for early pay. Other places and financial aid (FAFSA) is only going to give you intrest charges on top of money owed. I qualified for only low intrest loans... their idea of low intrest was 9% that aint low to me....
Keep in mind, some jobs, even menial ones offer tuition reimbursment, with the discounts Ashworth offers that could put money in your pocket, or pay your internet fee's for the next semeter.
It sounds like I work for Ashworth I am just a miser though.
Yeah I am definitely willing to consider it if i can come up with the tuition for that after i finish my diploma. Im ask Steph or Danny how much the program would cost through Ashworth
YES, I was accepted to University of Phoenix and McCann's . I don't have my diploma yet, although I am hoping to graduate by the end of the year. They did say they accept ashworth/ James Madison diploma~ Hope I helped some
Yeah University of Phoenix for sure wants me to go there. Im thinking about doing my bachelors here and then doing my masters at University of Phoenix...
I would like to go to university of cincinnati but i didnt see it on that list
does anyone knows if uc will take ashworth/james madision high school credits
What you need to do is contact the admissions office and tell them the diploma is regionally and nationally accredited and ask them if they will accept it.
I did not see the Fashion Institue of Design and Merchandising(FIDM). I am interested in the Merchandising-Marketing B.A. or Business Administration B.A.
After I graduated from here at James High school .. And I still wanna go to college.... does that mean I have to take a real college school or can I keep on doing my college at Ashworth. Please let me know thanks in Advance.
You can go to an outside college or Ashworth, your choice.
Great!!! I will keep on going or coming to Ashworth
I wanna study for an CNA.
Good luck!
Cool I see UGA is taking James Madison diploma and Lanier Tech. But here is a question on a what if.What if the school still refuse to take the diploma can you file a complaint with The Southern Association of Collages and Schools improverment or Sacs for short. If you live in a region that's governed by them.To force the school to take the diploma,Because one school I was looking at and would love to attend doesn't even take the GED that's how uptight this school is about taking Students that have had a issues in thier life that forced them to take other ways to pull themselves up from the bootstraps and better themselves.
You can't force a school to accept you. You'll just have to try and talk to them and let them know about your situation. The number one rule is to always show respect, unless they aren't respecting you. You can also have Ashworth contact them if there are any problems.
To be completely honest with you Wolf, I don't see why there'd be a problem with them accepting the Ashworth diploma.
SACS accredits many schools, as well as traditional school institutions.
I've been talking to a number of schools, and the first thing I always ask is if they'd accept my diploma, and I've never had one of them say no.
But like Anthony said, you can't force a school to accept the diploma.
And you should always show respect and be professional.
You are representing yourself.
Our main goal as applicants is to prove ourselves to colleges, to show them how we are unique, and to appeal to them, to make them want us to attend their school.
Did they say why they would not accept the diploma?
Sorry I was tossing a weird question out there because I really want to go to this school so bad it hurts since I was a kid.But I was reading the Schools webpage and it says they don't take the GED which got me to thinking if they might not take a High School Diploma from James Madison but you meet the same Standerds with your GPA, SAT/ACT as a normal High School Student that the Collage Requiers but the Collage might still refuse to take James Madison Diploma. But the Collage and James Madison has the same Governing Body which is SACS for there Regional Accreditation. So I was wondoring if you could file a complaint with SACS for SACS to look into the matter of a Collage not taking a High School Diploma becuase the way the Diploma was issued that SACS says is vaild,if anyone ever had a problem out of a Collage they might be looking to attend..
But I haven't really looked into the Collage to see if it does or doesn't take James Madison High School Diploma. It's just some Collages are very uptight in how they will allow people to enroll. But I really need to look into the Collage myself and see if they will take James Madison Diploma.
So Again I do ask weird questions so forgive me ^-^.
Oh okay, I see. So you were asking hypothetically.
Well, I know that there are colleges/universities that don't accept the GED.
However, they most definitely should accept your high school diploma from Ashworth because our school is accredited.
And because you've mentioned that the college you are speaking of is also accredited by SACS, I've come to the assumption that they will more than likely accept the Ashworth high school diploma.
Just browse their site some more and gather your information.
Then contact the college's admissions office via e-mail or phone (some even have Live Chat services) and inquire about how and if the school will acknowledge your diploma.
The Collages I'm looking at when I get done with my High School course was UGA or Emory University School of Law which the Collage doesn't take the GED.It's the best School of Medicine in the South and best Law School in the South.
I have a big dreams of attending Emory one day I hope and pray my dreams can come true one of these days. But If I can't then I guess I can say GO Dawgs ^-^.
From what I've heard UGA and Emory are very good universities, supposedly some of the top-ranked in GA.
And because I'm a huge advocate for education as a whole, I definitely encourage you to pursue your education at one of these universities when you're ready =]
Lastly, while I do believe that prayers help, I also believe that there is a very big difference between praying and wishing.
When you pray, you need to meet Him half-way. God doesn't always necessarily give us what we ask for, but most of the time, gives us the opportunity to get there.
And I will say that I personally believe that Ashworth is one of your opportunities to get to where you wanna be =]
So take it and don't let it pass you by! Do your best!
P.S.
If you don't believe in God or are of some other religion, I apologize, and I hope that my post does not offend. The reason why I referred to God is because in your previous post, you did say that you "hope and pray" your dreams come true.
i'll be going to austin community college first to get my a.s in computer science then transfering into the university of texas to get my b.s and Masters in computer science/engineering ![]()
Nice!!! Good luck : )
Hi. You seem to know a lot about this stuff and I'm having trouble finding an answer. When I enrolled I told the woman on the phone that I wanted to attend college after getting my diploma. I actually called to enroll in college with Ashworth and found out that the diploma I got in 2003 wasn't any good. It was from Continental Academy...waste of money. Anyway...can I attend college with the general diploma? Thats what she signed me up for even though I told her I wanted to attend college. Do I need the college prep diploma? Thanks for your time!
create a separate discussion
I just wanted to ask a certain poster a question. Sorry.
Hey! You could go to Ashworth College after graduating from the hs program with a general diploma. However, if you are going to an outside college, I would recommend taking the college prep program because it's more challenging and it prepares you better for college.
Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it! I plan on keeping with Ashworth so thats good. I already completed quite a few courses.
Your welcome! Good luck with your studies.
I know a lady that I use to be friends with got her high school diploma through Ashworth and degree Interior Design and goes to Holmes community college down here in Ridgeland MS. I hate that only the community college accept Ashworth high school diploma the 4 year college don't accept it.
That's what I figured!! Only little Community Colleges and Tech schools (i.e Everest, University of Phoenix, MedVance etc..) seem like the only one's excepting this JMHS Diploma, everybody else on here is just talking and assuming. NO one on here is actually answering the question. Have you actually been ACCEPTED to a 4yr college with the James Madison High School Diploma and if so name them???
I'm from Houston, Tx and I'm having a hard time finding schools that accept this schools diploma even so with the SACS Accreditation. Not even Remington College in Houston accepts it SMH
Alot of Colleges are cracking down and not accepting this JMHS Diploma, no matter how much everybody and the Admin on here swear up and down that this school is accepted worldwide, it is NOT.. Your best bet is too get your GED. You might get lucky to get in a College with the JMHS Diploma, but so far i'm not having any luck!
Do you have the general H.S. diploma or the college prep. diploma? Without the college prep., then don't think about getting into much (if any). People have been accepted to state, private universities, etc. There's also a difference between the diploma being "accepted" and your application getting rejected.
"There's also a difference between the diploma being "accepted" and application getting rejected" .. OH real FUNNY.
A H.S Diploma is a H.S Diploma. What should it matter which one it is, to get into a College?? Since they both supposedly have the same value.
People shouldn't have to jump through hurdles/do magic tricks and have special diplomas to get into school, college.
If your saying without the JMHS College Prep diploma you won't get accepted to a college "if any", then your basically saying majority of half the people on here are SCREWED(cause I didn't even know that)?!!
Which my point exactly, either way this schools diploma serve little to no value, seem like.
(Keep in mind that I am in a Southern State that's recognized by SACS)
I'm being completely serious, I want to help fellow students (or anyone) in this community. It's also clearly stated on Ashworth's website. After reading your response, I understand that you have a misunderstanding so I will gladly explain it for you.
1) Accreditation is key, and JMHS has both regional and national accreditation. Regional accreditation is extremely vital and JMHS has it.
2) After accreditation, the most important thing is your college's academic requirements. Most 4-year public and private universities require a certain curriculum and amount of credits earned in high school in order to be apply. JMHS's college prep. diploma fulfills the requirements for any university (but you'll also need to take the SAT's, and possibly the SAT Subject tests if required for admission at your selected university).
3) You don't have to jump through hurdles. JMHS offers 2 different high school diploma programs to chose from. The college prep. diploma has the requirements and curriculum that's taught at most public & private high schools in America.
To debate on value you must specify the diploma because their general ed. and college prep. diplomas are incomparable. Generally, the specification of your REGIONAL accreditation doesn't matter, they're just different accreditors that manage different regions of the country (there are 6 regional accreditors in the U.S. if I'm not mistaken).
Lastly, as stated in the beginning, Ashworth clearly defines their 2 different diplomas on their website:
General Ed: "Planning to attend a two-year college some day? Or go directly into the workforce after graduation?
College Prep: "James Madison High School’s college prep diploma will prepare you for success at a four-year college or university." "...will help students gain acceptance into top colleges and fulfill their career ambitions."
When I called to sign up and get information about the High School Program yeahhh they never stated the difference between both of the 2 diplomas, they were so gun-ho trying to get me too sign up ..
But when you call Colleges or visit them, they ask for SAT scores and if your a High School graduate. Clearly you would tell them you have a home school diploma and it's from James Madison High School or blah blah blah and it's accreditated by SACS. They are either going to look at there little list of schools they accept or deny you, SIMPLE. Rather its College Prep or whatever it doesn't matter(but of course it helps/prepare you for a 4yr college).. but if you say so OK.
So the next time I call a school and they say my SAT scores are good, but they don't accept JMHS Diplomas.. I'm going to tell them it's "College Prep" haha
I did try to explain very thoroughly but you just don't understand the academic systems. As long as your high school is regionally accredited it doesn't matter where you apply, where you live, etc. the next factor after regional accreditation is the courses you take in High school. They don't look at the title "college prep", they look at the credits you received and the subjects/classes you took in high school. The college prep. diploma contains more subjects and credits, and the courses have a higher level of difficulty than the JMHS general diploma, so there is a major difference between the two.
Yeah and you keep throughly telling me the difference between the two, and I CLEARLY understand them.
And I clearly/thoroughly keep telling you either or diploma doesn't matter/apply here where i'm located!
Not one school has looked at my transcript or looked at the classes I took. Even you having a college prep diploma and looking at the subject/credits you recieved, it is still not changing the fact that schools are either going to accept JMHS diplomas or not, understand??
Universities don't look at the name of a diploma, they look at your curriculum and accreditation. You're wrong, but okay.
Your not here and in my experience, how can you tell me. GOODBYE.
Well, that does it for me then, I went into this program to get my diploma so i can go back to college. lets face it, everything in the mechanic field it turning into computers and technology and I was needing to get back to learning at the college, if they won't accept them then my career is over.....
Ok first off im gonna start by saying Stop listening to other who didnt even earn there diploma yet. I know 100% colleges will accept it. i know many big schools that will for example im in florida and i know UCF & itt tech & everest accepts it so idk y people on here are being so negative about somthing they know nothing about ![]()
adam is correct they look and accredidation not what school you are from. And ashworth is 100% accredited you can even find them on the
united stated board of education
which isnt easy to get on so please do research before you call this school a scam or a waste of time.
I have personally called and talked to many colleges and have yet to have 1 tell me that they dont accept diploma's from ashworth. I know 1 right off the bat is Ashford Community College is a online college that will accept the diploma from Ashworth.
i called nca&t in north carlina and they said they wouldnt accept an ashworht diploma )= but mabe ill try calling back and try another person
