USMC Enlistment ?

I always wanted to join the USMC. I just want to know if they will accept my  JMHS Diploma ?  And is it a necessity to take the 15 college credits in order to enlist?

They will most likely consider the diploma an home schooling type, which means it will be in tier 2. Do research first, as it could limit advancement opportunity and so on.

Sorry to hear they will not accept just the diploma and want 15 college credits to go with it. I guess the military views a diploma gained online and out of a public class room the same as a GED. Even though in my own opinion online education is much harder because you have to be very self motivated. But there may be away around all this I know you want to join the USMC but have you thought about joining the army? with them being such a large fighting force I heard they are more lenient on this sort of thing and if you go to the army you still get the honor of being able to say you served your county. I believe the USMC is harder to join because  its a much smaller branch I heard they are only around 200 thousand active duty which is also because of how hardcore there training is and how more strict they are. Plus if you can get in the army with your JMHS diploma after you serve out your contract you can always try and enlist after into the USMC I bet even though you will be returning with the same diploma because you would have a military back ground this time to back it up you would not have any problem what so ever being accepted. Most of the men in my family are all former marines but every person has there own military experience I honestly plan to join the army after I get my JMHS so I get the honor of servering my country and if the military life is for me after I am out I will try and go for the marines next. You may hate this idea but I just thought I would throw it out there other then that you can always enroll in a community college to gain those 15 credits I don't think it would take to long I hope I was able to help in any way good luck with whatever you decide.

Wait the USMC dose not accept Credits from Ashworth College? Then the Ashworth rep I talked to on the phone flatout lied to me! I was told the USMC would accept the credits from the criminal justice class I was takeing. That's the only reson i'm taking it. If they lied I'm going to want a full refund!!!!

        Re: USMC Enlistment ?

Hmm I think you should try a different recruiter because it sounds to me like the one your going to does not have a clue what hes doing. That or he just does not want to do the extra paper work because first off he can look this school up very easy http://www.goarmyed.com/public/facility_pages/Ashworth_College_GA/default.asp if you go to this link you will see ashworth is even listed on the GoArmyEd website so the recruiter for the USMC should have no problem trying to get info on this school. I truly think the recruiter is just giving you a hard time because just like the other poster goldytiviri said he used this diploma from james madison / ashworth and just got accepted he is already enlisted also obama has already changed the law which you can read some about on this link http://www.takepart.com/article/2012/01/30/should-all-high-school-diplomas-be-treated-equally saying all online education / diplomas is now treated as tier 1 to get more info all you got to do is search the net the law has already been implemented. So I would go to a different recruiter joining the USMC is such a noble goal I would not let what the recruiter told you stand in your way.

re: USMC,  I talked to 3 different Marine recruiters and I was told NO.  The only way that I can join the Marines with my highschool diploma from Ashworth is to complete 2 years of college.  That college has to be done at a state university or junior college in a conventional classroom.

      Re: USMC Enlistment ?

Of course they lied to you.  Their primary concern is obtaining your money, like all schools, and all car salesman.

If you want to be a Marine, get your GED and 15 college credits from a brick and mortor school.  The Marine Corps is the most selective of all services because they are the smallest--their physical requirements are much more stringent as well.

I have been in the Marine Corps for 20 years, and have loved every moment of it.  However, I warn you that it won't be easy.

You could join the Army, get out, and attempt to join the Marine Corps.  However, you will have to go to Marine Corps boot camp, and you will start as an E3, no matter what rank you attained in the Army.

My suggestion is this:  Either join the Army and stick with it, or hold off until you meet the requirements to become a Marine.  It is a good idea to speak with all of the service recruiters so you can make the right choice.  Every service maintains and enforces their own cultural values--some significantly more extreme than the others.  You need to make the right choice so you won't be miserable.  Most want to be Marines, but few are willing to do what it takes to become a Marine and be successful throughout their first tour and beyond.

Make sure you do your research and choose wisely.  Good luck.

        Re: USMC Enlistment ?

jwmiller im also a marine we are not the most selective the cost guard actually is you cant even have more then 3 speeding tickets i got into the marines with a dui the phyical requierments are more difficult though the reason they wont take your deploma from here is because it is about as good as a ged and because they are cutting back forces they now require more just the army used to take people with mental problems when they were hurting for people now that they are slowing down they do not take them anymore and remember one thing the recruter will always lie to you that is there job its hard to get some to sign up for something if you tell them how hard and dangerious it really is if you want to be a marine get your credits and then join but make sure its what you really want to do dont half ass it

Hello.  I am glad and proud of the fact you want to join the Marine Corps.  I am USMC Retired (2003) an I did class room and online courses while I was on active duty.  The fact is education requirements change all the time depending on the top level politics.  Trust me when I say that no matter how you complete your schooling it will aid you in advancement and earn you respect among your peers.
