Every so often, we get busy and distracted and misplace things. Wallets, phone chargers, clothing items and retainers are all easily misplaced, and re-found, on a daily basis. The one thing people tend to lose the most, however, is their keys. If and when you do lose your keys, there are precautions you need to take. Having a stranger potentially have access to your car and home can leave you vulnerable. Here's what you should do:
- Change the locks in and around your home. It's not simply enough to add a chain or a deadbolt because that still leaves you vulnerable. By changing them automatically, especially if you lose them in a public place, your giving yourself peace of mind that your home and family are safe.
- If you have a home alarm system and have a control to the alarm on your keychain, contact the home alarm system in regards of what to do next. Most likely they will change the codes and issue you new keychains to protect your home.
- Let your neighbors know. This will give you some extra eyes and ears to monitor your place if you're not home. Put your nosy neighbors to good use and tell them if they see or hear anything suspicious to notify you immediately.
- You should look into re-keying your car as well especially if you lost your car keys too. Also, if you had anyone else's spare key on your lost keychain, inform them too. This may be costly but it's better than having someone vandalize your vehicle.
