Slim Jim - One of the most common auto opening tools is the slim jim. This device is used to bypass the keyhole to open the car door. A slim jim is inserted by way of the weather stripping that outlines the car window. As many foreign and domestic cars vary in terms of lock design, it is important to use a slim jim specified for use with the given make and model of a car. If used improperly, a slim jim can damage a car's window or door lock

Lock picks - A locksmith will use different styles and sizes of lock picks depending on the style of car. What the pick does it to raise the pins that are in the lock. Once the pins are up and in the right position, the lock is opened by the locksmith. This takes experience, the correct pick and time

Wedges - Just like there are different styles of lock picks, so too there are different styles and sizes of wedges. The wedge allows the locksmith to get a window in the vehicle open just enough to be able to reach the door lock or to get another car unlocking tool in. The type of car determines what tool the professional will use. Sometimes the wedge is used in the window area and other times it's used on the bottom of the door, between the weather stripping and the door frame. Some wedges are made of vinyl, so they have less of a chance of scratching the paint or otherwise damaging the car.
