When looking for a job, or even once you have one, impressing human resources person in the office is an absolute must. That person controls everything vital to your success at the office including days off, schedule, pay, and important papework. For all of these reasons, you will need to have the HR person on your side. Some people in human resources careers recently got together and comprised a list of some ways to make their jobs easier. Here are their tips.
- Don't badmouth anyone or anything including current or past bosses, coworkers, and tasks. This just makes you seem like a whiny, complaining, troublemaker and HR professionals don't want to have to deal with that.
- The way you dress matters. When it comes to an interview, make sure you look organized and put together. It may not be fair to judge someone on their appearance, but unfortunately that's the way it goes. It doesn't just have to do with clothing; make sure your hair is done nicely as well.
- Don't smoke on the day of the interview. The interviewer can smell it and you don't know if they are sensitive to that. Also, smokers are more expensive to insure so the company may judge you on that.
- Remember that the person on the other side of that desk is a person too and like any person, they love compliments. Find something interesting or appealing, like a photogaph or interesting jewelry, and give them a genuine compliment.
