Hi Hong,

When converting to R410a from R-22 and using the same line set it is necessary to horoughly clean out the system by flushing it, the procedure is as follows:

1.Use Pro Flush solution or R-11 kit and safety equipment including gloves and goggles.

2. Recover the R-22 from the system.

3. Disconnect any power leads.

4. Using a tubing cutter, cut the suction and liquid line at both the condenser and evaporator.

5. Temporarily connect the liquid and suction lines at the evaporator using clear plastic tubing and hose clamps.

6. Put a clean container at the outlet of the liquid line at the condenser to catch solvent and contaminants as they are purged from the system.

7. Connect the Flush can or Pro-Flush using the hose.

8. Connect the refrigeration service hose to the can valve and to the suction line outside with injection tool and adapters.

9. Invert the Flush can or Pro Flush and dispense a 15-20 second burst. Inspect the clear tubing at the evaporator and look for liquid. If no liquid is present continue 15 seconds until liquid is observed. Follow Pro Flush with a regulated supply of dry nitrogen and push the solvent into the receiving container while observing the condition of the material. When you see that he solvent is clear, the flushing is complete. Follow with a dry nitrogen purge.

10. Connect the line set to the new evaporator and condenser and evacuate and leak check and charge per factory specifications.

You are also concerned about the size for a heater for your 1700 sq ft home. Many things need to be taken into consideration when sizing a unit, you do not want it undersized nor oversized. When getting the total BTU you need the cubic ft of the house. Also heat is transmitted through walls, ceilings, floors, windows, moisture content, air leakage, insulation. The size of the unit must give enough heat to keep the occupied space at a comfortable temperature and humidity. There is no standard 1 ton per 500 sq ft, each bldg is different and needs an individual heat load calculation.

A ton of refrigeration is the heat absorbed by the melting of a ton (2000) of ice in a 24 hour period. The total amount of heat involved is 144 times 2000 = 288,000 BTU. The number 288,000 BTU per 24 hours is rather clumsy to use. However when divided by 24, it becomes 12,000 BTU per hour, which is a convenient and familiar figure for practical use. 1 Ton = 12,000 Btu

Many other students read questions also and this information is of help to them, so no question is too small or too big.

You had mentioned amps, I am uncertain where that comes into play, please be more specific and I can help you more.

18,000 Btu divided by 12,000 Btu = 1.5 Tons
