While the wedding is all about the bride and groom, the vast majority of people in attendance are guests. As a wedding planner, it's your resonsibility to ensure the event is enjoyable for everyone and not just the happy couple. For this reason, it's important to do what you can to make the guests happy as well. Glamour Magazine has several ideas on how to make the wedding wonderful for the couple, the wedding party and the guests.

  1. Just like you have rehearsal dinners, having a walk through of the ceremony is beneficial as well. This clears up any confusion for the wedding party and helps the guests get more into the event. Any time before the ceremony where those in the wedding have to converse to figure out what's going on is time that ends up delaying the ceremony.
  2. Everyone, including you and the couple, need to show up on time. While the wedding is all about the couple and the wedding can't start til they get there, the guests may need the wedding to run on schedule.
  3. Consider the comfort of those in attendance. While sitting on hay bales may work with the theme, the scratchy hay and the lack of back support will get to the guests after a while.
  4. Make sure guests can see and hear during the ceremony. If they can't, they won't feel like a part of the couple's special day and they may grow bored during the ceremony.

As a student in bridal consulting training here at Ashworth College, what advice do you have?

Weddings are a chance for families and friends to come together to celebrate a joyous occasion, but sometimes certain people can't attend. Whether it be because they've passed away, inability to travel or another circumstance, there can still be ways to commemorate that person and make them a part of the wedding. Here are a few suggestions from Glamour.com on how to involve even those who can't attend.

  1. Leave a "reserved" seat: Place a picture of the loved one in a designated chair so you can still feel as though they are there. If they are skyping from another location, place the laptop in their seat (make sure to do plenty of tests to ensure it's working properly). Be sure to put the picture of the loved one in a heavy frame so it doesn't blow away during the ceremony.
  2. Give them a "shout out" in the program: Keep it short and sweet and just mention that even though you love them they couldn't be here today. Remember this is a happy occasion so no one wants to be crying over a lost loved one when they should be crying happy tears for the couple.
  3. Display their favorite things: If the loved one really loved a certain candy or type of flower, find a way to incorperate it into the wedding day. While it's not an outright reference, those who knew and love the person will understand the significance and make them feel as though that loved one is still there.
  4. Mention them in the speech: Again, remember this is a happy occasion so keep it short and sweet. By making a note during the service or reception, they're being brought to attention and everyone will know they're missed.
  5. Donations to a charity on behalf of the loved one: In lieu of gifts, the bride and groom may choose to donate money to a charity that represents that person. Whether it's for cancer research or a donation to their church, doing something to honor those who can't be there is a great way to involve them and make a difference in the world.

For those involved in wedding planning, like those taking wedding planner training courses at Ashworth College, what other ideas do you have? Did you have a way to remember loved ones in your wedding?

The wedding day is almost always guaranteed to be stressful for everyone involved - especially brides. With the last minute preparation, infulx of guests and tons of nerves, the night before is going to seem like a hectic time. If you're fortunate enough to have a wedding planner, like the one you can become after taking certified wedding planner courses at Ashworth College, many of the last minute organizational things can fall on them. That being said, there are still last minute preparations for the bride to do the night before to alleviate some stress on her wedding day.

  1. Lay out the clothes you want to wear while you get ready. Make sure it's something you can easily take on and off to avoid smudging your hair or makeup. Also, be sure to make it something you won't be embarassed of in pictures because there are sure to be some taken.
  2. Pack a small clutch of things you may need - tissues, mints, a list of vendor's numbers. As a bride, you won't need many things, but you'll want to be sure to have the few things you do need available.
  3. Gather all of your wedding day accessories in to another bag. Things like jewelry, underwear, shoes and hair accessories are all things you'll want to have readily available the morning of the wedding. You won't have time to be looking for them then.
  4. Give your phone to your maid of honor once the rehersal dinner is over. She can screen your calls and only take care of the important ones. You don't need to be worried about all of your out-of-town relatives calling incessantly asking for directions to the hotel.
  5. Hand the tip money for the vendors to someone you trust like a parent or bridal party member. During the reception you'll be too busy having fun and mingling to remember to tip the decorator.

Today, being Valentines Day, love is in the air and romance is on everyone's lips. This iconic date for lovebirds is traditionally so romantic that it serves as a popular date for couples to walk down the aisle and proclaim their love in front of friends and family. While holding a wedding on Valentine's Day is an easy to remember anniversary date and ensures a plethora of romantic gifts to choose from, is getting married on Valentine's Day too cliché?

For those looking to get married to their valentine on February 14, having a red, white or pink color scheme is often implied. While choosing another color can certainly be done, it's common for guests to expect you to stick with the theme by choosing a date with a preconceived color scheme.

If the bride and groom are cautious with their budget, choosing a Valentine's wedding has it's pro's and con's. The actual cost of the wedding may be more expensive because people are looking to wed on that date so companies may raise their prices on that day. That being said, because Valentine's Day and anniversary's will be altogether, that's only one expensive dinner and one gift down the road.

After graduating from taking online wedding planner courses - like the ones offered at Ashworth College, would you lead a bride and groom to get married on Valentine's Day? What are your personal thoughts on walking down the aisle on February 14: cute or cheesy?

For many brides, finding the perfect wedding dress is on the top of their to-do lists. For those brides who find themselves too busy to schedule appointments or simply want an expert to come with them to their dress shopping experience, they'll hire a wedding planner. For those who want to learn how to become a wedding planner, getting the do's and don'ts of wedding dress shopping is a crucial skill to know. Here are a few key points to remember:

  1. Make dress appointments early in the day. Not only will there be more of a selection, but salespeople will be more energetic and eager to help because they're still fresh. You'll be able to get their full attention by making your appointment early.
  2. Focus on body type and not on trends. Thirty years from now, the bride will want her children and grandchildren to still think she looks beautiful and elegant and not terribly outdated.
  3. Bring a camera if the wedding dress shop allows it. As a wedding planner, it will be your job to ensure the bride makes decisions she (and the groom) are comfortable with. By taking photos along, you'll be able to get her family or friends' opinions (if she wants them) and also remind her of how beautiful her dress is when she gets overwhelmed by the other details.
  4. Only try on as many dresses as necessary. If the right dress is the first one you try on, there's nothing that says you have to keep looking. Too many options can get overwhelming so go with your gut.
  5. Ask a lot of questions about the care of the dress and the sale itself. Many of these purchases are final so you'll need to be sure the bride is 100% in love with the one she chooses.

What other things does the wedding planner need to keep in mind when helping the bride find a dress?

The bigger the wedding, the bigger the budget and with that comes a bigger headache.  The average cost of a wedding varies, but most reports say the number is around $25,000!  Although that number can vary depending on budget, throwing a wedding is not a cheap affair.  Whether you're planning your own wedding or want to work in wedding planning careers, trying to work within the confines of a budget can be stressful.  Here are some ways to trim a little off.

  • Getting married during "peak season" is likely to cost you extra.  Try walking down the aisle during late summer or winter and save as much as 20% off your venue cost.
  • Instead of trimming one or two people at a time, cut by table numbers.  That will save not only on plates of food, but on the tables themselves and the decorations that go on them.
  • Use seasonal flowers.  They're cheaper, more abundant, and since you can buy locally, you'll be able to help the local economy.
  • While alcohol makes a reception fun, it's not cheap.  Stick to offering beer and wine or having a few specialty cocktails to prevent having to pay a hefty bar tab.
  • Giving your photographer a curfew is a great way to save.  Have the photographer there for the ceremony and the beginning of the party, but then send them home.  No one wants pictures of drunk, sweaty, messy guests at the end of the night anyways.
  • As a general rule, DJs are way cheaper than a live band.  There is also more of a variety of music and it's easier to take requests from guests.

Weddings take a lot of preparation and work, so when the big day finally comes, it can seem like it's over too fast.  Brides, grooms, parents, friends, and people in wedding planner careers spend months, perhaps years, planning a weekend affair that seems over very quickly.  For this reason, many people choose to repurpose what they can from their wedding. Glamour.com has some great ideas for making your wedding materials work for you even after the big day has passed.

  • Use unused place cards to make seating arrangements for dinner parties.  You can also cut off monograms or designs from your invitations or menus to use as gift tags.
  • You can ask the florist to redistribute your flowers after the ceremony and reception to nursing homes or hospitals.  They're already beautiful arrangements - why shouldn't someone else enjoy them once you're no longer using them.
  • If you can part with it, donate your dress and get a tax write off for it.  Truth is, you'll probably never wear it again so aside from the sentimental value and the hopes of passing it down to your future daughter, there's no real reason to hold on to it.  Brides Against Breast Cancer resells dresses and donates the proceeds to fighting cancer and Brides Across America donates dresses to military wives.
  • Dry your flowers by hanging them upside down.  This way they keep their shape and don't lose petals along the way.  Once they're dried, you can put them in a shadow box frame and use it as decoration, or put the dried flowers in a vase and enjoy them forever.

Growing up, many little girls dream of looking like a princess on their wedding day.  Other than Kate Middleton, no princess has captured the world's attention quite like the Disney princesses.  Belle, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine, and Snow White (along with the other lesser known princesses) serve as the inspiration for many brides and those in wedding planner careers who make their fantasy day a reality.

So what should you do if you want a Disney wedding?  Tone down on the obvious and look to the essence of who each princess is to bring that element into your big day.

Cinderella - This is the most obvious choice as most brides want that Cinderella moment.  Everyone remembers that scene in the movie where she walks in and the entire crowd gasps and every bride wants to recreate that moment.  To add the Cinderella touch you'll need sparkly shoes, some chocolate mice, and a tiara.

Tiana - Hailing from New Orleans, Tiana is a southern princess.  Incorporate those southern touches by having traditional southern foods and some vintage accessories.  Add in some green details (she did spend most of the film as a frog) and your wedding will have subtle hints of the bayou.

Jasmine - Princess Jasmine is all about color, flair, and bright accessories.  This is the type of wedding to bring out the jewel tones and any fun, middle eastern accessories.  Birdcages (to remind us of Iago) make great centerpieces and don't forget the Persian rugs!

Rapunzel - Rapunzel is all about hidden love and romance so think light pinks and greens as a color palate.  She spent a lot of her time locked away so beautiful old keys can play a role in your theme as well.

Pocahontas - For the bohemain Disney lover, Poahontas is a great choice for you.  Bring in a love for nature and an appreciation for earthy tones here.

Ariel - Perfect for a beach wedding, think sea colors (so blues and tans) as your color palate.  Bring in touches of the sea such as seashells, starfish, and sand to accessorize with.

Belle-  Bring in some rustic yet glamorous pieces to recreate Belle's world in France.

Aurora - Sleeping Beauty is all about romance so make this wedding very soft and etherial.  Color themes should be pink and blue because who can forget the scene where her dress changes between those two colors?

Mulan - Think Jade green and a spread of Chinese food to symbolize this princess!  Dragon accessories and fortune cookies help bring Mulan's world to life.

Snow White - If the groom has six groomsmen (with the groom being the seventh) that would be perfect to recreate the dwarves!  This works great in an outdoor setting and of course, don't forget the apples.

Neon has been on trend for quite some time now and because of that, many people are choosing to incorporate this brightly colored style with the traditional white of a wedding.  For those who love this idea and want to brighten up their big day, there are ways you can slip the trend into your wedding ceremony without it being overpowering or tacky.  Here are some ideas.

  1. When thinking bright, it's all in the accessories.  Bright jewelry, neon shoes, and a pop of color on your sash are all ways to tie the trend in and make it work for you.
  2. The bride can have bright makeup to work towards the trend.  Hot pink lipstick and neon nail polish can achieve that subtle effect of having the neon in the wedding.
  3. Whether you're the bride or working in wedding planning careers, you know there are people in the wedding party that aren't the bride and groom.  The bridesmaids can wear neon dresses or have bright pocket squares in the groomsmen's suits.  This will bring the colors into the wedding but have the couple at the center look polished and classic.
  4. Why does it have to stop at clothing?  Put a pop of color in your food as well!  Having some neon peeking between the layers of the wedding cake is a fun way to make sure the theme merges from ceremony to reception.
  5. Speaking of reception, don't forget to incorporate this color palatte in your decorations.  From flowers to centerpieces to table runners, adding a little bit of neon goes a long way.

More than a party and a gathering of friends and family, a wedding is the joining of two people who are in love.  These two people have a history together and therefore have things that are significant to them as a couple.  Ensure the day is all about you two as a couple by incorperating items that have meaning and represent your personalities.  Here are some ideas.

  1. If the bride and groom met in Central Park or got engaged while on vacation in Napa Valley, use those important locations in the wedding.  Can't decide on a venue?  Add the special, personalized touch by hosting it in a place that has meaning.
  2. Incorperate your favorite things into the wedding or the reception.  For instance, if you bonded over a love of books and coffee, have a coffee bar or coffee cake served at the end of the reception or have a book themed party.
  3. Use your favorite songs to not only dance to, but as decorations.  Put lyrics to your favorite songs on cards and put those cards on the tables.
  4. Do you have a favorite past time that you both enjoy? "I have a wedding next Sunday. They love to bicycle ride. That's their thing," said Mindy Weiss, a well known woman in wedding planning careers. "So it's 'a bicycle built for two.' That's the theme. We're bringing that into the whole look of the wedding. We didn't overdo it, but we did put that little logo in unexpected places, like little corners of napkins. And we're bringing it into the decor at the seating card table."
  5. One personalized wedding touch that a lot of couples do?  Use their favorite colors as part of the wedding theme.  It's easy and it will be something that you both love.

Weddings aren't just the ceremony themselves, rather they encompass the whole weekend.  From the rehearsal dinner to the reception afterwards, weddings are a time for the whole family to come together and celebrate.  Those in wedding planner careers know that planning an event of this size isn't cheap so there are ways to save money, and a headache, when it comes to the rehearsal dinner.

  1. The average cost of a rehearsal dinner is around $1,330.  That comes out to be about 1/20 the cost of a wedding.  In order to save, many people choose to serve Italian or Mexican because you get the most out of spending the least.  Picnic meals are also a fun and cheap way of bringing everyone together.
  2. You aren't obligated to invite everyone from the wedding to the rehearsal dinner.  Only the bridal party and family members feel obligated to attend.  In fact, often times other guests are not invited and they do not feel insulted or resent the bride and groom.
  3. Follow the timeline.  The event needs to start and let out at a reasonable hour otherwise the event will go on too late.  Remember, the bride and groom have a big day tomorrow so they need to get some sleep.  Here is a good time layout as written by Glamour Magazine.
    • 5:00-6:00 - THE REHEARSAL
    • 6:00-6:30 - TRAVEL TO THE VENUE
    • 6:30-7:30 - COCKTAIL HOUR
    • 7:30 - GUESTS SIT DOWN
    • 7:35-7:45 - FIRST TWO TOASTS
    • 7:45-8:45 - APPETIZER AND MAIN COURSE
    • 8:45 - DESSERT
    • 8:50-9:10 - MORE TOASTS
    • 9:10-9:30 - COFFEE AND MINGLING
    • 9:30-9:45 - WRAP-UP AND TRAVEL TIME TO THE AFTER-PARTY
    • 9:45-11:30 – AFTER PARTY

When it comes to weddings, many people imagine a long white dress, beautiful flowers, and a picturesque backdrop for their vows.  Those in wedding planning careers have noticed an increase in the number of destination weddings and therefore, have developed some tips on how to better plan them.  Here are a few ways you can make sure your destination wedding goes off without a hitch.

  1. Getting legally married in the state you live in before the wedding is often a good idea.  While you can still have a beautiful destination ceremony and party, each state has different legalities that it takes to be considered married locally, so you'll want to make sure yours is legitimate wherever it is you live.
  2. Pick a destination that has many options for all of your guests.  Choosing a resort that has great spas, nice golf courses, and family activities will ensure your guests have a good time.  You also won't need to play concierge during your wedding weekend by trying to help guests figure out fun things to do.
  3. If you choose a resort, see if they provide you with a wedding coordinator.  Places like Atlantis resorts and Disney World have wedding coordinators you can hire that help you plan your event down to the last detail.  If the resort already has one, this will save you from having to hire an outside wedding planner.  Also, for those in wedding planning school, this could be a fun future career path.  It will provide you with an abundant amount of clients and will enable you to work from a central location.
  4. Choose to hold your wedding during the off season for better deals and less people.  Having your wedding at a resort can mean it gets a little crowded if you're not careful.  By holding your wedding during non-peak times, you're guaranteed less of a hassle.  Also, because  you're going when the demand isn't as high, you may be able to score some discounted deals.
  5. You may think wedding packages are cookie cutter, but what if they save you money?  For those hotels that do have a wedding coordinator, the wedding planner may already have established connections and networks that can help you get deals.  Look into it before you disregard it completely.  Many still have options where you can have some flexibility.

Capturing pictures and memories on your wedding day is an important aspect of anyone’s big day. Ensuring you have a good photographer is one of the most important tasks of any wedding planner.  While people in wedding planning careers can often find discounts on hiring a photographer, there are ways anyone can save on the pictures.  Here are a few ideas.

  1. Hire a photographer’s associate.  Often times they take great pictures but are still looking for a career opportunity and therefore, need to expand their portfolios.  Chances are, they may give you a discount if they can use your photos in their portfolio for a later time.
  2. Sometimes high end photographers allow you to open a registry.  You can have your guests submit donations as their gift and use that money towards getting some awesome pictures taken.
  3. If you have a tight budget, skip the before the ceremony shots and save your money and time on the cake cutting pictures.  You can always have a parent or guest take the group photos before hand and just use the photographer when your family and friends are celebrating with you.
  4. If possible, ask for a CD and a license to re-print them yourself.  This will save you a lot of money and sometimes drugstores have a deal if you order so many prints at once.
  5. Negotiating can really benefit you if you do it right.  While you’re not going to get an $8,000 fee down to $3,000, you may be able to negotiate slightly if the photographer already falls in (or very close to) your budget.

YAYYYYYYYYYYYY I DID IT

With shows like "Say Yes To The Dress" and "Four Weddings" on television, sites like pinterest loaded with beautiful wedding pictures, and bridal magazines lining the checkout counter at every grocery store, it's no wonder women are planning their weddings, or at least getting ideas, way before they're ready to walk down the aisle.  Some women just enjoy looking whereas others actually purchase wedding dresses even before they have a boyfriend.

It may be this passion for weddings that drives people to start work in wedding planning careers, but occasionally it's this same behavior that can lead others to judge.  "My friends joke with me all the time, saying, 'So you can get married like a month after you get engaged, right? ' and I'm like, yeah, probably," said one "single bridezilla."

Were you planning your wedding long before the ring?

When you get married, you want all of your friends and family to be there.  This includes family members of the four legged variety.  Many people are choosing to add a fun and unique aspect to their wedding ceremony by having their pet participate in the big day.  Just like choosing the perfect venue, securing a wedding photographer, or deciding on a catering service, getting your dog ready for your big day also needs to be worked into your wedding planning

  1. Train your dog - Whether it means walking down the aisle or wearing a bowtie, you will need to help him to practice his skills.  If your dog is a new puppy, expecting them to sit calmly during the ceremony may not be the best idea.
  2. Pick a venue - When choosing a venue, you need to make sure they allow dogs.  This may limit your choices or exclude your first choice, so you'll need to decide what's the most important.
  3. Get Your Dog a Helper - Designate someone to be responsible for the care and behavior of your pet during the ceremony.  This can be a bridesmaid who will walk her down the aisle (like in the movie He's Just Not That Into You) or another wedding guest who will keep the dog sitting nicely amongst the guests.
  4. A Picture Says a Thousand Words - Do you have a young dog that isn't ready for the pressure of a wedding?  How about a dream venue that won't allow him to be in it?  If you want to have your pet be part of your special day without having him in the ceremony, have him be in the pictures for your save the dates or thank you cards.  This way everyone can still see how cute he is without him being in the wedding.

What other roles can a dog do in the ceremony?  Would you let your pet be part of your big day?

When planning an outdoor wedding, a tent is often a wise choice.  It allows you to enjoy the warm weather and be in a less stuffy environment without worrying about the potential environmental problems.  Hot sun, rain, and heavy winds can all happen at a moments notice which aren't as bad if you're inside a tent.  If you do decide to rent a tent, there are some things you need to know.

  1. Tents don't have to be a one room setup.  Many tent companies can add windows and walls to section off seating areas, smoking lounges, and whatever else you want.
  2. Tents require permits.  Even if it's in your backyard, there are ordinances in place about how big, or how long, a tent can stay up.  Get this permit and do your research before cementing any plans.
  3. Having a nighttime reception?  Get a clear top tent so you and your guests can really dance under the stars.
  4. If the weather channel is predicting rain, you may want to have some precautions in place for your guests.  Providing umbrellas to help them get from the tent to their cars or having a valet to bring their cars tent-side will help them have a more pleasant experience.
  5. Don't try to put it up yourself.  The tent needs to be secure and stable so it doesn't collapse on your guests.

One of the most important parts of wedding planning is finding that perfect dress that will make the bride feel like a fairy princess.  Whether you go to a small boutique or a larger chain (like David's Bridal), the bride needs to come in with a sense of how you want to look, or at least feel, when the wedding march starts up.  When you or the bride finally are ready to take that big step into the first gown, There are some things you should remember to bring

  1. Bring shoes that have a heel hight close to what it is that will go with the dress.  They don't have to be the same shoes, but this will ensure the hemming is done to about the right length.
  2. Wear a supportive, strapless bra.  You'll be able to get a better feel of the dress when you don't have bra straps sticking out.  Even if you're sure you're going to wear sleeves, a strapless bra will still help you get the feel for the dress better.
  3. Underwear when trying on dresses is key.  You will most likely have a consultant in there with you so no modesty allowed.  Because of that, you may want to skip the thong.  Also, wearing nude underwear is important if you don't want your hot pink undergarments to show throught the white fabric.
  4. If you feel more comfortable wearing shapewear, then do that.  Remember, they'll be pinning, clipping, and measuring so if you're planning on wearing shapewear on the day of the wedding, wear it at the fitting.
  5. Bring in just a little bit of makeup and have your hair neat and clean.  You'll want to feel pretty after all.  Just be cautious with the lipstick - you don't want it rubbing off on the dresses.
  6. It's helpful to have a hair elastic if you want to wear your hair up on your wedding day.  This will help you get a better feel for the way it will look that day.
  7. Don't forget to shave!  On the same line of wanting to look pretty, you don't want to look hairy too.
  8. If you found a wedding dress you like in a magazine or on television, bring in the photo.  They store may not have the exact dress you want, but they can find something similar.
  9. If the store allows cameras, bring one just in case you want to show a picture of it to your friends or family who couldn't make it.
  10. Finally, bring a good support group.  Keep it small as to not have too many voices piping in and overwhelming you and the staff.

Wedding Favors

Posted by Ashworth College Feb 20, 2012

When it comes to planning a wedding, there are many factors to consider.  You have guests coming in from all over and often times, those guests are spending their own money on new clothes, plane tickets, gas to drive in, wedding presents, hotel rooms, e.t.c.  For these reasons, many brides and grooms choose to have a little something for their guests to leave with and remember the day by.

Some choose some kind of candy or other edible party favor for their guests to take home.  While personalized m&ms are cute, they won't last long.  In fact, often times these tasty treats don't make it out of the reception hall because they are just too yummy.  Other couples go for more of a "fun" feel.  They may iron "I danced my socks off at Jim and Marcy's wedding" onto a pair of socks.  These are fun and kitschy, but will your guests wear them?

The same token goes for many other "traditional" party favors.  Like everything in wedding planning, you won't be able to please everyone.  Instead, choose something that represents the couple and will be a good memento for your guests.

What party favors do you reccomend?

When in wedding planning school, you learn just how many different elements that go into the final plans for a wedding.  Besides figuring out the venue, dress, food, music, and invitations, as well as countless other details, the bride and groom need to pick out wedding rings.  Those rings, hopefully, will last longer than any photograph or memory so it's important to choose wisely.  So what do you need to keep in mind when you're going ring shopping?  Glamour has these tips:

  1. DO choose a ring that's the same metal as your engagement ring. Platinum and white gold look pretty much the same when they're brand new, but metals wear differently, so you could wind up with two very different looking rings in just a few years.
  2. DON'T pick a wedding ring that overpowers your engagement ring. Your rings will look best together if the bands are similar in width
  3. DO make sure the rings have something in common. You don't have to have matchy-matchy wedding and engagement rings, but make sure there's one repeated element: same-shaped stones, a channel-set band, or similar engraving.
  4. DON'T worry about your ring matching your husband's. Do you and your husband wear matching ... anything? Your wedding rings should reflect your personal styles, not each other's!
  5. DO remember some key specifications if you want an eternity band. If it has diamonds (or gemstones) all the way around, your wedding ring will be hard to resize if you gain weight. With this in mind, your wedding ring will probably spin around your finger a lot (since there's no center stone to hold it in place) so if you don't get stones all the way around, you might be constantly adjusting it to keep the stones right-side up.
  6. DON'T solder the rings together! You might eventually want to wear your rings on different hands, upgrade one of the rings, or leave one ring at home when you travel.

What other tips would you have for picking out rings?

On any given wedding day, all eyes will be on the bride.  Add in the millions of pictures and videos that will be captured and it's easy to see why it is imperative she look her absolute best. Whether you're planning the wedding or if you're the bride, here are some simple beauty tips from glamour.com that will make the wedding day, a little less worry-free.

  1. How to prevent hands from looking veiny in ring photos -  Before a ring photo, hold your arms straight up - like a Barbie doll with the arms cranked upward - so that all the blood drains from your hands and fingers. It'll make veins much less noticeable.
  2. How to make sure your wedding hairstyle stays perfect all night - Every bride should pack a baby toothbrush in her clutch. You should also pack a trial-sized aerosol hairspray, and when you need to tame flyaways before a photo, just mist the toothbrush with spray and then gently run over your hair. This is especially useful for those baby hairs around your face that could easily get too gunked-up if you were to just spray them directly
  3. How to keep sweat from dampening your wedding day - If you get very sweaty palms, feet or armpits, apply clinical-strength deodorant before bed and cover the area as best you can with plastic wrap. This makes the active ingredient penetrate much more effectively to block up overactive sweat glands in the days before your wedding, so you'll perspire much less heavily.

We all have different reasons as to why we chose to attend school. Just out of high school and College seemed appropriate, finally got the house to ourselves now that our kids are grown, to move forward in a career, to change careers. To show our kids that its never to late. I would love to hear your different stories of why you chose to come to school now.

I will start by sharing some of my background. I am a twenty two year old single mother. My son is just about three years old. Everyday I am focusing more and more on getting him started in pre-school which of coarse brings up starting kindergarten and that makes me think of my school experiences. I chose to drop out of highs chool in the eleventh grade and obtain my G.E.D. I still stand by that it was the best choice for me, but if I can, I want better for him. So I am trying to lead by example. How can I expect him to finish highs chool or go to college if I stay working minimum wage jobs and don't take every chance offered to me to better myself? I always wanted to attend College but once I got pregnant priority's shifted, now I have decided that part of me being a good mom is to set the pace for him. He is my biggest motivator.

The reason I chose to become a certified Wedding Planner also factors him in because it's something that CAN be done at home if needed. I believe I am excellent at listening to what others like, and on just the smallest of details making there dreams come true from little cousins birthday parties, friends bridal showers, over the hill parties, to event theme parties such as Halloween or Christmas. I have an eye for detail that atleast in my circle of friends and family is unrivaled. I have always enjoyed sharing special moments such as birthdays and weddings with people, so it made perfect sense for me to actually be right smack in the middle of the whole show and to get paid doing it!

Please share your stories, I would love to hear from you!!!

Many brides have dreamed about their wedding from the times they were little girls.  By the time the actual wedding planning starts, they already have a vague idea in their heads of what they want their dress to look like, how they want the reception hall decorated, and what kind of cake they want.  Because they already have many of the details planned down to the napkin rings, there isn't a lot of room for the groom to voice his opinions.  Thankfully there is one way he can be included: the groom's cake.

The groom's cake enables the groom to theme the cake with something they're interested in and it can be whatever flavor they want.  For example, if the groom loves chocolate but the bride is all about vanilla, you can have one of each.  You can also give parts of the groom's cake away as party favors which can save on buying extras.

Plan A Beach Wedding

Posted by Ashworth College Nov 21, 2011

In the winter time, people are looking for a reason to escape the cold and dreary parts of the world and head somewhere a little more warm.  This explains why beach weddings are so ideal in the winter.  But just like with weddings held in a church or any other indoor venue, there are some helpful wedding planning tips to help the day go smoothly.  Here are a few:

  1. Weather Alternative - Anytime you plan an outdoor wedding you need to understand that you cannot control the weather.  You cannot rely on the weather being sunny and gorgeous even at the beach.  Because of this, it is important you have a back up plan in case there is bad weather.  Some alternatives can be an indoor location or a large tent that you can retreat to.  Just make sure you inform all guests of the alternate location.
  2. Food - Although the wedding itself is the reason this day even exists, it is the food that many people enjoy coming for.  There are several options you can consider when planning for a beach wedding. Some options include a barbecue or a Hawaiian style pig roast.  Some popular foods you can cook can be individual skewers with steak or chicken and vegetables, salads, and anything else you would put on a grill.
  3. Lighting - Beach weddings are obviously not going to require any lighting if the weather permits.  However, if you are planning a night wedding this is something you will want to keep in mind.  If you are going to need a power source, make sure you plan ahead so you know how you will plug in the cord and where you will be able to plug it in.  Other options include candles and torches.
  4. Music - As with everything else in the wedding you want the music to compliment the theme.  Consider music that is calm, soothing, and fun.  In addition to selecting the right kind of music for the wedding, you also want to be aware of any noise violations that may halt the party on the beach.
  5. Decorations - he last thing you want to keep in mind when planning beach weddings is the decorations.  This should be one of the easier things to plan as long as you keep it simple and connected to the overall theme.  Think of tiki torches, leis, sandcastles, and bright colors.  Beach weddings are supposed to be romantic and fun and selecting the right decorations can make this day everything you have ever imagined.

Your engagement photos are your official announcement to your family, friends, and community that you have started down the road of joining your life with someone else.  These photos not only set a tone for your impending wedding, but they directly reflect both of your personalities.  If you are fun and easygoing people, taking photos in suits and stiff dresses is probably not the best way to go.  Likewise, if you've never left a big city in your life, posing in a field wearing cowboy boots doesn't reflect who you are.

Even so, you do want to dress to impress in your pictures.  Now whether that means dressing to impress yourself or your family remains up to you.  Here are some engagement photo attire tips:

1. Your attire and accessories should complement the location. High heels for a shoot in the woods won't look right.

2. The colors of your outfits should play off the location. Bold hues look great in a more gritty, urban environment, while softer shades look nice in a rustic setting.

3. It sounds like a no-brainer, but choose clothing in complementary colors. His bright red shirt and your pale lavender cardigan are going to clash in photos.

4. Be sure to bring a change of clothes (or two) and extra accessories so you get a variety of looks.

5. Your ensembles should also match formality-wise. If you're wearing a cocktail dress and heels, he needs to do better than jeans and a T-shirt.

11-11-11 Wedding

Posted by Ashworth College Nov 7, 2011

Just like how many couples love to get married on holidays, it is popular for people to get hitched on days with easy to remember dates.  This Friday will be an event that rarely happens: all six dates are the same.  The next time this will happen: November 11, 2011 (we'll all be dead by then).  Even so, because this date will not only be easy to remember, but also a rare occurance, this Friday is going to be big for weddings.

Look at the history: wedding dates with matching (or consecutive) numbers have been popular.  One county kept a record of it.

  • July 7, 2007 (07/07/07): July 4, 5, 6, 7 - 4,333 marriage licenses issued
  • Aug. 8, 2008 (08/08/08): Aug. 5, 6, 7, 8 - 2,626 marriage licenses issued
  • Oct. 10, 2010 (10/10/10): Oct. 7, 8, 9, 10 - 3,090 marriage licenses issued

That's not to say that data is the same in every county, but it is a proven trend.  For one, the date is easy to remember so both brides and grooms won't have an excuse to forget their anniversary.  Second, having dates like 11-11-11 or even 12-11-10 are thought to be lucky.

What do you think of this trend?  Would you want to get married on a date like this?

Halloween is rising in popularity for couples to say "I Boo" instead of "I Do". Some of those couples simply choose the date to get wed, whereas others go all out and theme their wedding to match the spooky undertones of the day.  Either way, it is possible to make the affair classy and elegant while still remembering that it does take place on Halloween.  Here are some Halloween wedding planning tips.

  • Wedding Invitation: A wedding invitation is indispensible to a wedding and if the wedding has a Halloween theme, it may be difficult to get a Halloween themed wedding invitation card. You may make your own wedding invitations and order or customize a Halloween party invitation. Use the Halloween colors such as orange, black, red, or purple for the card.
  • Wedding Decorations: The ambience of the wedding venue is important to make sure it complements the Halloween theme. Use the black and red color theme for the wedding decorations to look creepy. Even black and orange or red with yellow combination will give a great Halloween touch to the decorations.
  • Use Halloween props such as black netting table cloth with twinkle and glowing lights, wall clings and wall decals with monsters and insects, dead tree branches etc. Use these props to decorate the wedding venue and for a really neat touch, hang carved pumpkin with glowing lights and also hang black light strings at the doorway.
  • Wedding Ensemble: The bride and the bridegroom need to have a unique and antique dress to go along with the theme. Bride may capture a Victorian-influenced hairstyle or an uneven layer cut to look weird, or you may wear spider hair-clips.  For the attire ideas, brides may follow a vampire theme or even dress up as Dracula's bride.  Usel sleek black gloves to dress up the gown.  Make the gown red or black or even antique looking white lace to add to the ambience.  For the groom and groomsmen, wear black tuxes or suits with red or orange cuberbunds to go with the theme.
  • Wedding Cake: Order a wedding cake that complements the Halloween theme. You may select from various ideas spawning from a coffin shaped cake, cake in a haunted house shape to a normal cake with spider web-shaped icings.Cake toppers such as ghost couple, skull, crossed bones or a witch may add to the creepy look for the occasion.  Some couples have taken a cue from Hollywood and done famous couple cake toppers like Jack and Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas) or Frankenstein and his bride.
  • Cocktails and Food: Include Halloween recipes and cocktails for the wedding food menu. Drinks decorated and served with Halloween props such as spider webs and gummy insects match best with the theme.  Order Halloween recipes such as eyeballs sandwiches, salads served in pumpkin carved in skull shape and Dracula finger cookies, or skeleton shaped cookies may be delicious and a scary surprise for the guests.

When you're planning a wedding, it can be stressful.  With so many details to work out and input from a lot of people, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed.  Even so, there are some moments that make it all worth it

  1. When you make a venue decision - You can't fully imagine the wedding until you know for sure where you (or the bride) will be walking down the aisle.  The venue helps mold future decisions on decorations, the dress, the number of guests, and so many other details.  Having the venue nailed down will also make you feel accomplished and that the rest of the wedding planning can finally get under way.
  2. Finding the dress - Again, this helps imagine how the wedding is going to feel and look.  It also is the most anticipated part of wedding planning so finding the dress you or the bride will walk down the aisle in is a thrilling and moving moment.
  3. Dropping the invitations in the mail - Once this is done, you know that it's really happening.  Sure you may worry, "did I put enough stamps on the envelope?" or "did I double check the spelling of their name?" but once they're out in the universe, there is no getting them back.  Plus, now everyone invited can share in the excitement and anticipation of the main event.
  4. Getting your first response card back - Especially when that RSVP is "yes" you know you will officially have guests.  Even if many people have told you they're going, its always exciting to see it in writing.
  5. You finish that last thing on your "to-do" list - Insert a sigh of relief here! Months of planning and preperation have paid off and even if this feeling doesn't hit until five minutes before the ceremony starts, it's still an exciting moment.  Smile and realize that all of your hard work is going to pay off.

What moment made you smile when you were wedding planning?

A lot goes into wedding planning: from the style of flowers to cut of the dress to the flavor of the cake.  With trying to remember whether the napkins were white, off white, or eggshell, remembering other details seems difficult.  Thankfully, there are some staple do's and don'ts when it comes to planning the reception.  If you follow these simple tips, the party planning should be more fun than work.

DO: Book your reception site/ hall as soon as possible, ideally within several weeks after getting engaged and selecting your wedding date.

DO: Go together as bride and groom to various possible reception sites. Arrange meetings with a representative from each location. Ask about pricing, special features and amenities. Inquire about sample menus if the reception site requires that you use their own catering service.

DO: Brainstorm together what you both consider to be your “ideal wedding reception.”

DO: Consider different creative places to hold your wedding reception: hall, restaurant, art gallery, museum, church, park, country club, own home or family’s home.

DO: Remember the following expenses that need to be planned and budgeted for:

  • rental of reception site
  • flowers
  • cost of entertainment – band or DJ
  • lighting and sound system
  • wedding lunch or dinner

DO: Think about the following catering fees:

  • cost of lunch or dinner
  • cost of catering services
  • cost of tables & chairs rentals
  • cost of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks; decide whether or not to serve alcohol; cash bar versus open bar
  • cost of desserts and appetizers

DO: Decide as a couple whether you would like to have buffet-style or traditional plate-dinners served by the wait staff.

DO: Remember that it is less expensive to have buffet-style meal.

DO: Remember that a lunch reception is less expensive than a dinner reception.

DO: Regarding menu options, make sure that both the bride and the groom get the opportunity to sample all of the different menu options, including the appetizers, salads, soups, entrees, and desserts.

DO: Look in wedding magazines and search on-line wedding websites for photographs of various wedding reception. Figure out what flowers, decorations, colors and themes appeal to both the bride and the groom.

DO: Cut out photos from magazines or print out photos from websites of wedding reception dΘcor that you enjoy.

DO: Talk to family and friends in order to find out what DJ or band or musicians they hired for their weddings. Get recommendations from family, friends, co-workers and neighbors.

DO: Meet with at least two or three different DJs or bands. Find out what genres of music they specialize in and what types of music they feel comfortable playing.

DO: Listen to the band or musicians play one or two sample songs for you

DO: If time allows, attend one of the band’s or musician’s performances to evaluate how they would sing and play with an actual audience.

DON’T: Just select a band or musician in a hurry without listening to them perform.

DO: Go as bride and groom to wedding exhibitions and talk to and listen to various DJs, bands and musicians. Get their contact information, find out about the services provided, music specialties and fees.

DON’T: Invite friends, family, coworkers, neighbors simply because you feel obligated to invite them.

DO: Invite the people who genuinely support you two as a couple. Keep it smaller and more intimate.

DO: Plan your seating arrangement carefully.

DO: Seat family members and couples together.

DON’T: Seat strangers together.

DON’T: Seat people who don’t get along together.
