My name is Clinton Anderson Jr. and I recently graduated from the auto mechanic training course at Ashworth College. This is my story. I have always liked cars and was mechanically inclined since I was young. I used to fix bikes for me and my friends, always getting into my father's tools. When I got to high school, I took a 2 year course in auto technology. From that education, I would do small repairs on my family and relatives' cars.
When I began fixing my own cars, I started getting into more sophisticated problem and major repair work. I remember the 1989 Ford Escort GT I was able to keep running until the unibody cracked right down the middle. I would fix that car and run it at autocross races on Sunday. My friends started asking me to fix their cars, and they would have me fix cars for people they knew. This continued until this very day, but a good friend, that was a retired mechanic, said that I should get a certification. So I tried Ashworth College and their school-at-home program fit my schedule perfectly. Within a period of time, I was able to complete the auto mechanics course and am now certified to excel in my profession.
After graduating high school in 2008, I had bad luck with college. I failed my first semester at a community college I was at and dropped out twice. I was constantly writing papers and failing tests, not to mention getting paired in team projects and not that I'm antisocial or anything, but I'm not exactly the most chattiest person. I never had time to myself so I just basically said "the heck with it." I thought I was fine working at my current job at a grocery store and I was about to get married soon. But I later found myself not happy where I was working and left my job to work at a resturant as a hostess. I still was not satisfied and two weeks into it me and my husband (fiance at the time) found out I was pregnant. The day after we found out we was having a baby my manager called me into work for a meeting and told me that because of my reserved personality they had to fire me. After our wedding I found myself sick to my stomach and my husband and I decided that I should not work while I'm pregnant. Inside I did not feel right with just a high school diploma. I wondered "How am I going to show off accomplishments to my child one day if I don't have many?" I also was afraid of not being happy no matter what job I worked at after the baby got here. I talked to my husband and we thought it would be a good idea if I went back to school while I wasn't working. I went to EducationConnection.com and found Ashworth there. I decided on the medical office assisting program and 2 days laters my books were mailed to me. Although I was still sick everyday and not comfortable at all due to the other side effects of being pregnant I still pushed my self to keep finishing lesson after lesson. Then a week after my 22nd birthday, my water broke without contractions and my doctor decided I should be in the hospital until I deliver the baby. I was unable to work on school for 3 weeks. Then July 4, 2012, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, David. I came home that Saturday and although I couldn't've been any more tired I dived back into my schoolwork. After being in the NICU for a week David finally got to come home. I always worked on my work while either David was sleeping or while my husband was off work and he took care of David. September 28 I finished my last test. Two days ago my tuition was paid off and I am waiting for my career diploma in the mail.
Looking back I feel accomplished that through out my pregnancy, hospital stay, postpartum, and caring for an infant I was able to obtain a Medical Office Assisting Diploma. This makes me confident that I really can do whatever I want and achieve anything. I am now working towards a Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education Degree here at Ashworth. I believe in myself enough to know that I can overcome any obstacle to achieve anything I desire and while my child is growing up, I'm going to encourage him that he can do the same. I want to let students know that no matter what comes your way, if you set your mind to something and work hard you can do anything. Anything you want.
Ashworth provides a high qality education, fast and flexible learning – these are main reasons I decided to join Ashworth College. As an international Ashworth student, originally from Kosovo, I am delighted with tools Ashworth embodied on me to conduct business more professionally. Serving in Middle East, in a contingency environment, engaged in supporting U.S. troops on a daily basis and still being able to pursue online education was a miracle. I was able to work long hours, seven days a week, and still manage to be productive with further education to make a difference in quality of life for my family. I am currently finilizing my Associate of Applied Science in Business Management program while planning to continue with Business Management Bachelor’s Degree in the near future.

I am sitting here looking at my diploma and the feeling is all too real that I have accomplished a goal in my life that I had been working on for many years. I had my A.A. degree when I transferred to Ashworth, so my transition was pretty smooth. I had taken a few college courses from a private university a few years ago, but they were so expensive and I just couldn’t afford anymore school loans. Ashworth College gave me the opportunity to obtain my Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education online without going into so much debt.
I really enjoyed my studies, although I have worked in the early childhood field for many years there is always room for learning. I can’t tell you how great it feels to have such a weight lifted off of my shoulders and be able to say that I have a B.S. degree. There's just something about those letters behind your name that make a difference in the way you are viewed by employers. Although I could just about out do anyone in an early childhood classroom, not having that title was missing in my career.
I started my own early childhood consulting business last year and it counts for a lot when people that only know you by paper can see that you are educated and have taken the steps to further your education. This shows them that you are professional, take your career serious and are committed to professional development in your field.
In my current career, I work with early childhood teachers to improve the quality in their classroom, demonstrate best practices and strive for professional development. If I don’t take my own professional development serious and with heart then how can I ask others to do the same? Early childhood is the most important educational step for children and research proves it. The first five years of life are crucial for development and can determine how a child will function and grow when they reach primary grade level. We need educated early childhood teachers!
I also train and do presentations. Usually the programs just list my name, but this year I get a add some very important letter and I am very excited about that.
Ashworth has given this opportunity and I will hang my accomplishment with pride. If you are reading this and you are thinking you just don’t need a degree to teach three-year-olds, I urge you to press forward and earn your degree. I promise you will feel so much accomplishment and sense of self and others will take a second glance when those letters of the alphabet follow your name!

I am a retired Chicago Police officer with 31 years of services. I am in the paralegal field to expand my knowledge of the Criminal Justice System: I have my BA in the field of Criminal Justice, with a medical problem that prevent physical labor. I have found in my travel so many person has a miss conception of the Criminal Justice System. The system is in place for assistance and protection. I have come to the belief that compoent of the system are more of the problem, rather than the system.
My gift to society is to be a Criminal Justice Coach, helping people to better understand the system. This venture is not for the accumulation of wealth, my pension take caare of that. I received my BA at 66 years of age, i started colledge 1962, between then and 4 grown children and 31 years marriage to the city of Chicago.
Touch me back and lets share some Ideas, i value what you have to say.
I can't tell you how many times I have reviewed your website, student video success stories and YouTube videos. I found YouTube to be very interesting because it has past Ashworth Commencements and videos from students. It also includes DETC information, which I found helpful and reassuring when trying to convince everyone and myself that on-line or distant learning education was JUST as important/credible as traditional colleges.
I'm now quite the ambassador for Ashworth College. I talk about your college to fellow colleagues and processionals abroad on a daily basis. I am very thankful obviously for your diligence and professionalism during my college experience. Success may not have happened without your words of encouragement at exam time and other times when I wanted to quit due to difficulty or frustrations with test questions. I have not taken my class ring off since I received it after completing my Criminal Justice Associate Degree online. I was equally as proud when I received my AS in Paralegal Studies. Those two achievements were truly life long goals that I never thought I would accomplish.
My wife is truly one of my biggest heroes in that she started this whole college experience in the fall of 2010. She enrolled in Antioch College Midwest in Yellow Springs, Ohio as a full-time student, mother of five which works full-time. I work two jobs, approximately 70 hours a week, maintain management positions at both locations and have approximately 70 employees to manage on a daily/weekly basis. She encouraged me to enroll in college, which I did at Ashworth and since then have obtained two college degrees. I am now approximately 14 classes away from my Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, which I expect to complete by the end of 2012. I will then be enrolling in my Master's Degree Program or Graduate Program at Ashworth.
I can't tell you how many times a subject comes up while on the job or in my personal life, when I blurt out an answer to a question, someone says "how did you know that" and I reply "it was a test question in college." I'm most proud of what I actually learned and didn't realize that I did until afterwards. I have been a full time law enforcement officer for approximately 22 full time years now. In my portfolio, I have pages of classes, certifications and awards that I have earned during my career but until now, I had no college degree. I'm now proud to display my Ashworth College credentials at the top of my resume.
I was the one in the family that thought I could rise to the top without a degree and it wasn't until 2010 when my boss (Chief of Police) burst my bubble and said I was not going to be sent to a law enforcement command school needed for promotion that I realized I had to do it on my own! It was a motivation that I needed and now I have more education than even my boss. This journey has been very trying on my family, with both of us pursuing college degrees, balancing gymnastics, school events, church functions and still finding time (late at night I might add) to complete my courses and papers. But it has also proven to be one of the most rewarding things that I have done!! Thank you Venus and thank you Ashworth College!!
In closing, these college degrees have already allowed me to obtain a substitute teaching license in the State of Ohio which requires an AS degree and I was able to apply at a company in the private sector, soon to be listed as a Fortune 500 company. I typed this quick email to give you some of my talking points, so if you need a motivator and successful speaker at your 2012 Commencement, I'd be honored. My entire family plans on attending regardless from all over the United States.
