Prior to planning my own wedding six years ago, I initially became interested in event planning while working as an interior designer at JC Penney. I eventually branched out on my own and started up my own event management company. Since I still felt a need to fill a few gaps in my business, I went ahead and took some additional interior design courses as well as some floral design, photography, and event planning programs at a nearby university. After looking at two other colleges I chose Ashworth to complete my Bridal Consulting program. The enrollment process was a breeze.
I started my online course in September and completed it in January. This was not typical, but with my planning background and being able to better devote my time to my studies during the colder months, I was able to complete the course very quickly. The fact that my Ashworth instructor was a bridal consultant herself was invaluable. She clearly communicated some of her real world experiences that could never be found in textbooks. Believe me, I later came across plenty of my own fair share of client wedding situations. But thanks to Ashworth, I was well prepared.
My special event business finally all came together when I received my diploma from Ashworth College last year. You might say that was the icing on the cake because my accredited diploma truly helped certify my expertise as a full-fledged bridal consultant. It also lead to more consulting jobs. At the end of my day, I consider watching a bride and groom enjoy their special day to be the most rewarding aspect of my work.
My company, Beverly J. Bowers Special Events, is now in it’s eighth year and going strong. Last month I was proud to be recognized by Cambridge Who’s Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in event management. I was recently asked to join my town’s “Better Home Town” board after three years of volunteer work. My plan for the future is to hire a new business partner to help further develop the company. Ya’ gotta love it!
