I was raised with a sense of "if you want to accomplish something, just go out and do it." So two years ago I decided to embark on a career in Medical Billing. I chose medical billing because I wanted a flexible schedule that would allow me to spend more time with my daughter. This has turned out to be the most exciting decision I have made as it has helped me build an independent business for my family and me.
At first, I was a little intimidated because I had absolutely no experience in this field. But my husband encouraged me to enroll in Ashworth’s medical billing program. The more I learned, the more confident I became that I could succeed in this career. While I earned my diploma, I began setting up my billing service on nights and weekends. Six months later I signed my first client, a chiropractor who wanted me to manage billing for his entire practice. Now I have seven clients in various specialties through word of mouth referrals. My husband constantly expresses amazement at how well my business has performed in such a short time. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work hard, earn a great income and help people every day.
The medical billing field is very challenging. Every day you will find issues that you haven't seen before. You will need to be continually learning and challenging everything. Getting to the decision makers in these practices can be tough, and if you finally speak to an Office Manager or even better the Doctor, you really have to know the business to earn their confidence. But be persistent, never give up, and you will succeed.
I have begun a new life and loving every minute of it! I am able to stay at home with my daughter, I love working with physicians and I am very passionate about my work. To get up every morning and be excited about what you do is worth a million bucks! I can’t wait to see what the future brings.
