Bad about Blogs

Posted by tburrowac13 May 1, 2013

It should be treated as a diary of my success, which after taking the first couple of classes, I know this will help me track everything.

For some reason, my grade shows as an A- in my grades with my quizzes and tests, however, in my grade book, it shows a D!  HUGE difference and I don't want to have lower grades because a flaw in the system.

I put off school for a few days because of kids and their stuff...and let's be honest...I was being a little lazy...

So I will try to blog everyday as I get work done.  This will also help me track my success.

BTW how do people take college courses and still not know grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.  How do they pass college??

Some people think that companies should not participate in April Fools Day pranks, while others enjoy that a company can be lighthearted and have fun. In any case, with the digital age, the pranks can go viral quickly. Adweek.com compiled a list of the best April Fools Day pranks pulled this year by big brands. Companies such as Twitter, the U.S. Army, and, of course, Google all made the list. Take a look by clicking the link above and comment on which are your favorites.

As a student studying for your online marketing degree at Ashworth College, what do you think of companies participating in April Fools Day? What other jokes by companies did you come across?

Last month, a Carnival Cruise Lines ship, the Triumph, was left adrift in the Gulf of Mexico following a fire in the engine room. The guests were left without power and with few working bathrooms. It took 5 days from the day of the fire to bring the ship to shore and guest complaints were wide spread. As if all of this and a pending class-action lawsuit against Carnival wasn’t enough of a PR nightmare, more Carnival Cruise ships have faced problems this week.

The Carnival ship Dream this week experienced issues when some elevators and toilets stopped working part way through a seven day cruise. This resulted in the cruise being ended early. Also, the Carnival ship The Legend has experienced problems this week with sailing speed, and this resulted in canceling a scheduled stop and heading back to port.

While Carnival has tried to compensate guests for the issues, the abundance of the issues has many cruise goers second guessing their choices.

As a student enrolled in Ashworth’s Bachelor Degree in Business Management program, or one of Ashworth’s other Business Programs, you know that Public Relations is a very important aspect to any business, and consumers hold the power to make or break a company. With this in mind, what is your opinion on how Carnival should handle these issues and the PR disaster that is unfolding? Do you think the Carnival issues are affecting the industry as a whole or just Carnival?

In New Zealand, dogs can drive. A project began to raise the awareness of the SPCA shelter and the rescue dogs available for adoption. Through this project, 3 dogs were taught to drive a MINI. The video of the result is below. What do you think of this project?

Many of us have had those awkward moments in a job interview. Maybe it was something you did and maybe it was something the interviewer did. Maybe it was not knowing enough about the company before showing up.  Everything from an awkward question to a wardrobe malfunction to tipping over the chair you are sitting in has occured at job interviews, and sometimes these may cost you the job. So how can you prevent this from happening to you?

When it comes to interviewing, practice makes perfect. Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind when going to a job interview:

  1. Do your research on the company and the position you are applying for.
  2. Have a friend or family member sit down and practice interview questions and answers with you.
  3. Dress appropriately. You can never go wrong with some nice slacks and a button up top.
  4. Make sure that your phone is off or on silent before you arrive.
  5. Keep your energy upbeat and positive throughout the interview.
  6. Arrive early. Be sure to also schedule in time in case of traffic.
  7. Take your time answering questions and remember to take a deep breath.

What are some of your worst job interview moments? Is there a way to come back from an awkward moment?

You just finished your career training at Ashworth College and are getting ready for job interviews. You have perfected your resume, picked the outfit, updated your Linkedin profile, and brought your can do attitude, but did you check how your social media sites make you look?

Many of us have a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or other social media profile, and many may not realize the impact that these profiles can have on a job search. Before or after your interview, a company may search for you online and find these profiles of yours. Depending on what they reveal about you, you could lose that potential job over just one post or image. So what can you do to prevent this?

  1. ) Keep your profile clean of anything you would not want your boss to see- this includes pictures you are tagged in, friends posts,  and posts you make. At a minimum, always ensure that settings are set to restricted.
  2. ) Consider using your name misspelled or a nickname on social media sites to make it more difficult to be found and ensure further privacy.
  3. ) Always keep your profile/default picture work place appropriate.

Keep in mind, it is not currently illegal for an employer to ask you to login to your Facebook and to look through it together. Keeping everything as clean as possible will help to ensure that if they ask this, you are prepared and there should be no embarrassing surprises for them to come across.

What tips do you have for other students about their social media accounts?
